Damian took note of everything, then suddenly looked up. 

“What did you say? She had an induced labor three months ago?” 

“Yes, the test results show that the patient underwent an induced abortion three months ago. Her body did not recover properly after the procedure, which led to a tubal disease. She will have difficulty conceiving in the future.” 

“For more details, I suggest you consult the hospital where she had the surgery. For now, we can only treat the fever caused by her pneumonia.” 

After saying this, the doctor left the ward. 

Damian stood by the window, gazing into the pitch–black night. 

Outside, the wind and snow howled, as if a beast lurked in the darkness, ready to devour everything. 

Suddenly, he realized that he knew nothing about Claudine. 

She had been by his side for five years! 

He had always thought that this woman loved him deeply, and even his friends believed the same. 

At one point, he even found her clingy because she cared too much about him. 

But lately, he found her more and more incomprehensible. 

Roberto’s appearance, the divorce agreement drafted before Audrey returned to the country, and… the abortion three months ago! 

She actually had an abortion! 

Hadn’t Claudine always wanted a child? 

Why would she have an abortion behind his back? 

A thought emerged in Damian’s mind, one he could not accept.

Damian placed both hands on the windowsill, clenching them into fists. 

He had always been cautious about such matters, even at critical moments, he would take precautions.

Damian turned to glance at the woman lying on the hospital bed, his dark eyes swirling with hidden emotions. 

He dialed a number, and then left the ward. 

When Claudine woke up, she stared at the familiar room, her mind blank for a moment. 

How did she end up in the bedroom at Belmont Villas? 

She remembered feeling terribly unwell and half–asleep at Rachelle’s place, dialing emergency services, but every- thing after that was a blur… 

Did she call Damian while she was out of it? 

She couldn’t recall, and her head was still spinning, so Claudine turned over and went back to sleep. 

Downstairs. 

After arranging everything, Damian spoke to Angie. 

“Go pack my things. I’ll stay in the guest room.” 

Angie was taken aback. 

“Mr. Barrette, your things are already in the guest room.” 

Damian frowned. 

Angie continued. 

“The day Mrs. Barrette came back, she asked me to put your things in the guest room. I thought you knew…” 

Seeing Damian’s expression grow darker, Angie dared not say more and left the dining room. 

Damian glanced up at the direction of the upstairs bedroom, then threw the napkin in his hand onto the table with force. 

Before leaving, he gave instructions to the household staff. 

“From today on, she is not allowed to leave this house!” 

Angie was shocked, “Mr. Barrette, what do you mean by this? Mrs. Barrette, she…” 

Damian shot her a cold look, and Angie immediately fell silent, bowing her head in response. 

“Yes!” 

Claudine woke up again, and it was already dark outside. 

She had slept well and felt much refreshed.

A servant outside the door heard movement and knocked before entering. 

“Mrs. Barrette, you’re awake! The kitchen has prepared soup. Please eat something before taking your medicine.” 

Claudine asked, “What medicine?” 

“The doctor said your body is too weak and needs nourishment. He prescribed herbal medicine and instructed you to drink it every day.” 

Claudine recalled that the doctor had said the same thing during her previous check–up. 

“Alright, I’ll come down to eat after I freshen up.” 

Soon after, Claudine came downstairs and went to the dining room. 

Angie had already prepared dinner and set it on the table. 

Claudine ate quietly by herself. 

She didn’t ask where Damian was, nor how she had returned home. 

She didn’t want to mention that man anymore. 

Angie looked at Claudine, wanting to speak several times, but remembering Claudine’s previous warning, she chose to remain silent. 

After taking her medicine, Claudine returned to the study. 

In a few days, it would be time for her interview. 

Although she was quite confident, she still wanted to strive for perfection. 

After all, this was her first step toward a new life. 

Besides, she didn’t want to disappoint Adriana. 

Considering her poor health, Claudine decided not to go out for the next few days.
