Courtney’s expression changed drastically. 

The saleswoman had just gotten approval from the manager and was opening the secure display case to take out the genuine diamond necklace. When she heard Sandria’s words, her hands paused. 

If there were any onlookers, they might burst out laughing. 

The corner of Courtney’s lips twitched for a second, but she masked her emotions well. 

She immediately linked arms with Judith and pouted. “Mrs. Burnham, what does Ms. Farley mean? I’m a regular here. Of course, I know necklaces this valuable won’t be displayed unless requested. I’m glad we’re the only ones here. If word gets out, someone might doubt your family’s finances.” 

The Burnham Group’s cash flow problems were the Burnham family’s most pressing issue. 

Furious, Judith yanked her bag from Sandria’s hand. 

“Sandria, you’re just an ordinary employee. Stop acting like you’re some rich socialite! If you don’t want your job anymore, just piss off! The company doesn’t need eye candy like you anyway.” 

She was certain that Sandria didn’t dare to quit and would swallow her pride to apologize to Courtney. 

Florentino, who had been silent all this time, echoed in a deep voice, “Apologize, or this will be your last day at the Burnham Group.” 

Sandria took out her resignation letter and flung it into his face. 

“I quit.” 

With that, she turned to leave without hesitation. 

Stunned, the three remained motionless. 

She had walked quite some distance when Florentino’s furious roar rang out. “Don’t regret it, Sandria!” 

She casually waved her hand without even looking back. 

Regret it? 

She’d be the last one who regretted it. 

The patent she had signed over to the Burnham Group would expire in thirteen days. 

On that very day, she’d return to her real family. 

As she walked out of the mall, someone suddenly grabbed her arm.

She turned around and frowned when she saw who it was. 

“Mom…” 

“You damned girl!”

Lola Brandt, her adoptive mother, shoved her arm away furiously, pointed at the mall entrance, and snarled, “What did you do? Who do you think you are, lashing out at the Burnham family? Get back in there and apologize to them! Forget about coming back if you don’t get them to forgive you.” 

So, Lola saw everything. 

Sandria smiled self–mockingly. 

“What if I say no?” 

Lola had been infertile years ago, so she and Travis Farley, her husband, had adopted Sandria from an orphanage. 

At first, they had been nice to her, but everything had changed after they had a son, Nick Farley. 

Sandria had been suffering from then on. 

After knowing she was with Florentino, Lola asked her for money every now and then. 

To the Farley family, she was like an ATM. 

Since she didn’t say anything, Lola pinched her arm hard. 

“Do you think you’re a rich heiress or what? Aren’t you afraid of losing your job? Or getting dumped by Florentino? Are you just gonna walk away from his money? Gosh, Sandria. You’re twenty–six already. After years as his little plaything, you actually believe any decent man would want you now?” 

She sized up Sandria’s curvaceous figure in disgust, as if appraising a valuable commodity. 

“Get as much money as you can before you become old and unattractive. Nick’s getting married, and we wanna buy him an apartment. It’s only 150 thousand dollars. You’ll be paying.” 

Sandria suddenly wanted to laugh out loud. 

150 thousand dollars? 

Was that all she was worth to them? 

Over the years, Sandria had been enduring it, pouring nearly all her earnings into sustaining the Farley family. 

Nick didn’t make it into college and never bothered getting a job. He had been mooching off her shamelessly. 

And now, she had to pay for his apartment? 

Did that mean she’d pay for his wedding, too? What if he wanted to have children? Or a car? Or anything else?
