It was all so sudden, and she needed time to digest it. Luckily, Ashlan didn’t pressure her. He said the family was ex- panding into Eaveton, and she could take her time to think. 

He also offered her an apartment, saying it was hers exclusively. Though she refused him, he insisted on giving her the key, saying the deed had already been transferred. 

According to her address, the driver drove into the most exclusive high–end apartment district in Eaveton and then pulled up in front of a building. 

Sandria went up to the eighth floor and opened the apartment door with the key. As soon as she entered, she widened her eyes–it was a 200–square–meter luxury penthouse. 

The floors were draped in plush wool carpets, every appliance was top–of–the–line, and the decoration was simply op- ulent. 

While she was in a daze, the doorbell rang. 

A deliveryman stood there with four large bags of daily necessities. 

Just then, her phone buzzed. 

Ashlan texted, “Let me know if you need anything.” 

Feeling warm, she replied to him quickly, “I have everything I need. Thanks, Ash.” 

After organizing her stuff, she stood next to the large floor–to–ceiling windows, feeling nothing but irony. 

In two weeks, the Schroeder Group would host a banquet to announce its Eaveton expansion. And Ashlan intended to use the occasion to reveal her true identity to the world. 

She had wanted to tell Florentino about this today and bring him over to the banquet. 

With her help, the Burnham Group’s crisis would be solved easily. 

But only tonight did she realize Florentino had had other plans all along. To him, she had never been a wife–just a plaything. 

Well, half a month later, he’d learn that the woman he cheated on was from the very family he had been desperately trying to suck up to. 

She couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he learned the truth. 

Though she wanted to let out a derisive laugh, her lips only twisted into a broken smile. The great bitterness over- whelmed her, sending tears down her face.

Chapter 2 

The spacious room was deadly quiet, and the agony was deafening. 

Somehow, Sandria found it hard to breathe. 

The fridge was stuffed with ingredients Ashlan had bought for her, but she didn’t want to cook. 

She ordered some takeout and wine, drinking her sorrows away.

The night had fallen. Lightheaded from the wine, she wandered outside to toss the trash. As she turned from the dumpster, she collided with a firm chest. 

The refined notes of designer fragrance overpowered the alcohol clinging to her palate. 

The man held her waist, his magnetic, mellow voice echoed in the hallway, exuding charm and sexiness. 

Squinting, she looked up. 

A strikingly good–looking face came into her view. Everything about him–from his sharp, exquisite features to the curve of his lashes–was simply perfect. 

She took a step back to see his face more clearly. 

Then she recognized him. “Fulbert? What are you doing here?” 

During those eight years with Florentino, she’d occasionally accompany him to dinner parties. 

Naturally, she had met quite a lot of his friends, including Fulbert Ortega. 

He was the most mysterious and handsome one. 

Oddly enough, while others curried favor with her for Florentino’s sake, Fulbert was the only one who was always blunt, and his words stung every time. 

He had said ages ago that Florentino didn’t love her. 

Finally, her pent–up anguish had an outlet. 

She clutched his bespoke tie and yanked him closer to her domineeringly. 

“Are you stalking me? What? Are you here to gloat, telling me ‘I told you so“? Men are all jerks. I mean every and each one of you. You know what? If you think I’ll treat you with mercy just because you’re good–looking, you’re wrong.” 

Under the alcohol, the last shred of her sanity vanished. Like an aggressive cat revealing its sharp claws, she wanted to lash out at everyone in sight.
