Chapter90
“Did you know Harriet resigned? I heard the old chairman
signed her resignation letter himself.”
“Harriet resigned.”
“She really quit? No wonder we haven’t seen her for over a
week. Looks like she’s finally standing up for herself, not
playing the pushover anymore.”
“Ms. Chavez resigned. I already confirmed it with HR. She
handed in her resignation when Mr. Townsend was on his last
business trip.”
“Wow, the vice president of the Townsend Group just quits like
that?”
“This is probably not just a resignation-looks like a divorce is
coming too.”
“Married for three years, and now they’re finally getting
divorced. How much do you think Harriet will get?”
“She’s lucky-married and became vice president, divorced and becomes a rich woman. In three years, she’s covered ground
others couldn’t in several lifetimes.”
“But seriously, once they’re divorced, Mr. Townsend will be
single again.”
“Hahaha, here’s our chance, there’s…”
For a while, everyone in the company was talking about
Harriet’s resignation and her impending divorce from Ellsworth.
Even the gossip media quickly picked up the story.
Ellsworth and Harriet’s marriage in crisis.
Harriet has resigned from the Townsend Group, rumors of
marital trouble between the two.
Harriet divorcing, has resigned from the Townsend Group.
Along with these gossip headlines, Ellsworth’s old scandals
were dug up again, especially the one with Kelsey. People said
Harriet left the Townsend Group because of Kelsey-after all,
Ellsworth hadn’t brought her to the project launch event.
He brought Kelsey instead.
With the media spreading rumors of their marital crisis, as soon
as the stock market opened, the Townsend Group’s shares
turned red and kept falling.
In the office, when Noel knocked on Ellsworth’s door, he barely
dared to breathe.
From behind his desk, Ellsworth glanced at him coolly, and only
then did Noel report, “Mr. Townsend, news of Ms. Chavez’s
resignation has spread, and there are also rumors about your
marriage with Ms. Chavez. The impact on the stock is
significant.”
Ellsworth remained expressionless. “I know. Have the general
office issue a statement.”
Noel replied, “The general office is already drafting a
statement.”
At this point, Noel hesitantly asked, “Mr. Townsend, should we
contact Ms. Chavez and have her clarify the rumors?”
In the past, whenever something leaked to the media, Harriet
was always the one to handle it.
She was Mrs. Townsend. If she said those things were false,
then even if they were true, they became false.
If she didn’t believe it, no matter how much others made a fuss,
it was useless.
At Noel’s suggestion, Ellsworth didn’t even look up, casually flipping through the project documents in his hand. “No need.”
“Understood, Mr. Townsend.”
With that, Noel didn’t linger. He turned, quietly closed the door behind him, and went back to work.
As soon as Noel left the office, Ellsworth put down the
documents in his hand.
After checking the Townsend Group’s stock, he raised his hand
and rubbed his temples.
His head was pounding.
With Harriet’s departure, the Townsend Group’s market value
had evaporated by at least several billion.

Galaxy Innovations.
Harriet had just finished a meeting with the project team when Reginald’s assistant came over to inform her, “Ms. Chavez, Mr.
Barton would like you to come to his office.”
“Alright, I’ll be right there.” Setting aside her teacup, Harriet quickly replied.
After the assistant left, Harriet took a couple more sips of
water, grabbed her pen and notebook, and headed to Reginald’s
office.
She knocked on the door and greeted politely, “Mr. Barton.”
At that moment, Reginald had just finished talking with
someone else and was sitting on the office sofa. When he saw
Harriet come in, he nodded toward the sofa on his left. “Have a
seat.”
The assistant tidied up the coffee table, made fresh tea for the
two of them, and then quietly closed the door as he left.
Reginald looked at Harriet and asked, “You haven’t checked the
stock market today, have you?”
Harriet replied, “I haven’t looked lately. Has Galaxy Innovations
made any moves?”
Since leaving the Townsend Group, Harriet hadn’t paid attention
to the stock market.
In fact, even when she was at the Townsend Group, she rarely
checked-after all, Ellsworth handled all that. He was steady and reliable at work, someone you could trust.
After hearing this, Reginald reminded her, “Your departure from the Townsend Group has been made public. The Townsend Group’s stock is dropping sharply today. You should keep an eye on it and see if you need to go over and handle things.”
After Reginald finished speaking, Harriet took out her phone, opened an app, and checked-the Townsend Group’s stock was indeed plummeting, a straight line into the red.
After quickly scanning the information, Harriet looked up at Reginald and said calmly, “Thank you for the reminder, Mr.
Barton. I’ll contact Ellsworth in a bit.”
