Chapter86Â
After Harriet returned to her office, people were still gossiping about Ellsworth’s scandal from the night before, speculating with great interest whether Harriet would eventually accept a three-person relationship.Â
Standing inside her office, looking at the place where she had worked for three years and remembering all the overtime she had put in, Harriet raised her right hand and gently stroked her desk.Â
She had done her best these three years.Â
Even though Ellsworth had once saved her, after these three years, they were more or less even.Â
After that, she took off her work badge, placed it face down on the desk, packed up a few things, and quietly left the company with a bag in hand.Â
She didn’t disturb anyone.Â
Since Ellsworth wasn’t at the company, the HR manager didn’t dare say a word about Harriet’s resignation. He locked herÂ
resignation letter in the safe, planning to wait for Ellsworth’s return before making any decisions.Â
After handing in her resignation, Harriet went to stay at the Chavez mansion with Ralph for a few days.Â
During that time, Harriet called Galaxy Innovations to say she’d report for work next Monday. They were delighted and told her they’d be waiting for her.Â
Ralph and Deloris were considerate, never mentioning anything about Harriet and Ellsworth, nor asking if they’d had a fight.Â
After a few days of rest at home, when Harriet went to report at Galaxy Innovations, Ellsworth also returned from his businessÂ
trip.Â
He came back in a rush and immediately called a meeting ofÂ
the executives.Â
In the spacious conference room, Ellsworth glanced around atÂ
the familiar faces. Everyone was there except Harriet. He immediately looked up at Noel.Â
Harriet had always been punctual for meetings, never late.Â
Noticing Ellsworth’s gaze, Noel hurried over, bent down, andÂ
said, “Mr. Townsend.”Â
Seeing this, Ellsworth glanced at the attendees again and asked coldly, “Didn’t you notify Harriet about the meeting?”Â
As soon as Ellsworth finished speaking, Noel’s face showed clear discomfort.Â
Afterwards, he leaned in and whispered in Ellsworth’s ear, “Mr. Townsend, Ms. Chavez has resigned.”Â
Before Ellsworth could say anything, Noel quickly explained, “I just found out myself. The resignation letter was signed by the old chairman.”Â
As soon as Noel finished speaking, Ellsworth’s expression darkened instantly, and he threw the documents in his handÂ
aside.Â
Ellsworth’s reaction immediately drew the attention of everyoneÂ
else in the room.Â
Seeing this, Noel hurriedly said, “Let’s start today’s meeting.”Â
As soon as he finished speaking, the meeting began.Â
But every time someone looked at Ellsworth, it felt as if his gazeÂ
could kill.Â
At this moment, Ellsworth was indeed furious.Â
So, as soon as the meeting ended, Ellsworth called Colin andÂ
asked, “Dad, did you sign Harriet’s resignation letter?”Â
On the other end of the line, Colin replied calmly, “Yes, I signedÂ
it.”Â
Ellsworth stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, holdingÂ
his phone to his ear with his right hand, his left hand in hisÂ
pocket, staring outside in silence.Â
The two of them were at a stalemate for a while before ColinÂ
spoke first. He said, “Ells, do you really want to live a good lifeÂ
with Hara? If you don’t, then don’t waste her time. Go and getÂ
the paperwork done.”Â
Patsy, Raymond, and Tamera were still trying to mediate, stillÂ
trying to persuade Harriet to stay, but after what Ellsworth hadÂ
done, Colin really couldn’t say anything more.Â
So he decided to let Harriet go.Â
Colin’s words urging him to let go made Ellsworth’s faceÂ
darken. He pulled the phone away from his ear and hung up.Â
***Â
Meanwhile, at Galaxy Innovations.Â
Galaxy Innovations wasn’t as large as the Townsend Group.Â
The company occupied several floors in a downtown officeÂ
building, had a few labs in the tech park in the developmentÂ
zone, and also owned a research base.Â
Harriet reported for duty at the downtown office building.Â
After getting familiar with the company with a colleague, HarrietÂ
returned to the main office just as Reginald came back fromÂ
the lab.Â
Seeing Harriet had come to report in, Reginald greeted her withÂ
a smile, “You’re here.”Â
There was no hint of unfamiliarity in his tone, as if Harriet hadÂ
been an old employee of the company.Â
Harriet responded with a gentle smile, “Mr. Barton.”Â
Reginald said, “No need to be so formal at Galaxy Innovations. If you have any questions, just ask Jonas and the others forÂ
help, or you can come to me.”Â
At this point, Reginald instructed Grayson Arellano beside him, “Grayson, organize a get-together tonight. Invite Zachary and the others-some Amberville University alumni. You all can help Harriet get up to speed on the developments of the past few years.”Â
“Sure thing, Mr. Barton.”Â
After chatting for a bit in the main office, everyone went back to their own offices.
