Chapter85

After finishing breakfast at home, Harriet drove to the general manager’s office.

It was where Ellsworth’s father, Colin, worked.

To avoid interfering with each other’s work, father and son each had their own office building.

When she arrived at the office building, the young secretary led her to Colin’s office and reported, “Mr. Townsend, Ms. Chavez is

here.”

From behind his desk, Colin quickly stood up, smiling warmly.

“Hara, you’re here. Have a seat.”

After the secretary closed the door and left, Harriet greeted him

with a “Dad,” and Colin personally made her tea and poured it

for her.

Taking the tea from Colin with both hands, Harriet tasted it, set

down the cup, and then looked calmly at Colin once he had

returned to his seat.

Only then did Colin smile and ask her unhurriedly, “Hara, is there

something you wanted to talk to me about today?”

In her three years at the Townsend Group, Harriet had visited many times, but this was the first time she had come to see Colin directly.

Hearing Colin’s question, Harriet took a resignation letter from her bag and handed it to him. “Dad, I want to resign from the company and do something I really enjoy.”

As soon as he saw the resignation letter Harriet handed over, the smile on Colin’s face faded, and his expression grew heavy.

It was no secret that Ellsworth and Harriet’s marriage was

troubled.

As his father, he naturally knew as well.

Harriet had come to him, probably because she hadn’t been

able to work things out with Ellsworth, and the two had even

been talking about divorce recently.

Frowning thoughtfully for a long while, Colin finally let out a

heavy sigh and looked at Harriet. “Hara, have you thought this

through? And after leaving the Townsend Group, what do you

plan to do? Do you need any help from your mother and me?”

In the face of Colin’s gentle concern, Harriet replied calmly, “I’ve already found a job related to my field. I don’t need any help from the family for now.”

Seeing that Harriet had already lined up her next job, Colin had nothing more to say.

Thinking of how his son had done nothing as a husband for three years, and had even trended online with Kelsey last night, Colin looked at Harriet for a long moment before silently

accepting her resignation letter.

He then picked up a pen from the desk and quickly signed it.

Taking the signed resignation letter from Colin, Harriet quickly said, “Thank you, Dad.”

Colin got up to see Harriet out, but didn’t say much more. As

her father-in-law, there wasn’t much else he could say.

After all, Harriet had already handed him her resignation letter.

As for whether the two of them could make it work, or how far

they could go, that would depend on Ellsworth’s own fate.

With Colin’s signed letter in hand, Harriet felt the weight on her

chest lift as she drove back to the company.

When she returned to the company and handed the letter and handover documents to the HR director, the middle-aged man hesitated, stammering, “Ms. Chavez, what is this… I…”

Seeing his difficulty, Harriet simply stuffed the letter and

documents into his arms and smiled. “Don’t worry, Director Liang. All the paperwork is in order, the old chairman has

signed, and I’ve handed over my work to Noel.”

Holding Harriet’s resignation letter, the HR director seemed to

want to say something several times but stopped.

Why would she quit such a good job?

Seeing his helplessness, Harriet smiled and said, “Director

Liang, thank you for your care these past few years. I’ll head

back to my office now.”

Only then did the HR director quickly respond, hurrying to see.

her off. “Ms. Chavez, take care.”

Watching Harriet leave, the middle-aged man couldn’t help but

feel sorry for her.

After leaving the HR department, Harriet felt refreshed. She

could finally go to Galaxy Innovations and do what she loved.

“Ms. Chavez.”

“Ms. Chavez.”

On her way back to the office, everyone still greeted her, but as soon as she passed, they whispered behind her back, saying

she was incredibly tolerant. Ellsworth had held a press

conference with Kelsey the day before, and last night it was revealed he spent the night at Kelsey’s house, yet Harriet still came to work as if nothing had happened.

“If you can endure what others can’t, you can enjoy what others

can’t either.”

“Exactly. Not just anyone can be vice president, you know?”

“It’s just a case of one willing to give, and one willing to take.”

Everyone thought Harriet married Ellsworth for the Townsend family’s wealth and power. Even Ellsworth himself believed she

endured everything for the title of vice president and Mrs.

Townsend.
