Chapter 28

Scott could no longer endure the emotional whiplash of uncertainty.

He wanted to marry her, to bind their futures together forever!

Pamela seemed unsurprised, smiling as she replied, “Alright, I’ll follow your lead.”

At dawn the next day,

Scott texted Rachel about his wedding plans, hoping she’d meet Pamela again.

He also notified close friends and family.

Then he drove Pamela to the bridal boutique.

Amidst racks of dazzling gowns, Scott noticed Pamela’s hesitation.

He cupped her cheek tenderly. “Take your time. Choose what you love.”

She shook her head, eyes seeking his guidance.

“Pick for me. I want to wear the dress you like.”

Scott selected a sleeveless mermaid gown-elegant yet radiant, perfect for Pamela.

But when she emerged from the fitting room, his heart clenched.

“You’re still as thin as in our school days. Nothing’s changed.”

Pamela protested, “You cook my favorite meals daily! I’ve gained weight.”

”

Scott smiled wordlessly. Only he knew she remained as fragile as during her high school illness.

Upon returning home with the gown, they found a package at their doorstep.

It was from the Pottery Boutique in Artisan Village.

A month had slipped by unnoticed.

Unwrapping it with care, Scott placed the Personalized Couple Mugs safely in the cabinet.

At lunch, Rachel and Uncle Nathan arrived, their expressions grim.

Rachel scanned the room, her eyes welling with silent tears.

As Scott moved to comfort her, Nathan asked gravely, “Scott… can you still see Pamela?”

Scott pointed toward the living room. “She’s right there!”

Nathan sighed. “Have you been taking the pills?”

“Those were for delusional disorder. Don’t you realize?”

Rachel’s composure shattered into sobs.

Scott staggered backward as if struck.

“What delusions? She’s real!”

Nathan’s eyes filled with pity. “We never said who… yet you claimed she was real.”

“You’ve known the truth, haven’t you?”

“You just couldn’t accept that Pamela died ten years ago…”

Trembling, Scott pointed toward the living room. “Uncle Nathan, she’s standing right—”

His words died as he turned.

The living room stood empty.

Only the Ginger Tabby watched curiously from afar.

His gaze accidentally caught the lonely porcelain mug in the cabinet…

Scott’s world instantly shattered like glass, plunging into endless darkness and cold.

Panic seized him as overwhelming dread, fiercer than before, crashed over him!

He frantically searched every room but found no trace of her.

“Pamela! Pamela!”

“Impossible!

This has to be real!”

“She’s just hiding because you scared her!”
