Chapter 8
“Ask your precious son yourself. Oh, and that car? I sold it too. Someone will contact you.”
Shirley stared at William in disbelief.
“Diana, what nonsense is this? These are marital assets to be split equally. What right do you have to dispose of them alone?”
I smiled. “These were all my father’s pre-marital gifts to me. Forgotten after all these years of marriage?”
“No worries if you forgot. Refuse to move out? I’ll file for eviction.”
Humming a tune, I walked away without another word.
Chaos erupted behind me. William frantically checked his remaining assets.
Too focused on work, he’d never even known his exact salary.
His payroll records showed a mere 8,000 monthly income-while household expenses exceeded 20,000. The math spoke for itself.
Shirley turned ghostly pale, bracing against the wall to keep from collapsing.
She thought she’d landed a golden catch, only to reel in a fake-gilded turtle!
No house. No car.
Her mother shrieked: “What’s that bitch implying? Making us homeless?”
“What a sin! My son spoiled her all these years! I cared for her! How could she!”
William steadied himself. “Calm down! I still have one property.”
That afternoon in New York, my busy father sent my senior colleague to fetch me.
The quiet man knew I’d finalized my divorce today. At the airport, he waited with hyacinths.
Their fragrance soothed me throughout the ride.
My colleague asked softly: “Do you know what hyacinths symbolize?”
I shook my head. “Always loved them, never knew their meaning.”
“Rebirth. They bloom only after dead flowers are trimmed. May your life follow suit-shed the past to bloom anew.”
His gentle tone surprised me. I’d only heard him explain complex medical theories before. Now, comforting words
made him feel closer.

“Thank you.”
Life in New York filled me with purpose, like my youthful dream-chasing days-living wholly for myself.
Yet three months later, William reappeared.
Disheveled and broken, he’d lost all resemblance to the leading physician he once was.
“Diana… I was wrong… Please come back…”
I tried to walk past him.
He grabbed my wrist. “Shirley abandoned our child! Spread rumors about my affair at the hospital-got me fired! She seduced me first! I made one mistake…”
“Diana, I’ve learned my lesson. Give us another chance. Let’s rebuild.”
