Chapter 11

Some said it was as if he were confessing through those young substitutes, again and again, filled with guilt for the man he once was-the one who had never cherished his wife.

“Ethan!”

A petite girl walked up to Ethan Miller, affectionately linking her arm through his.

When I saw her face, I froze for a moment.

She did look a little like me.

Especially like Sophia Carter at eighteen.

I shook my head. Sophia, it’s been two years since your divorce. What nonsense are you thinking?

Hadn’t I heard he’d already dated over a dozen women? How could he possibly look for someon to replace me?

turned to leave, and just at that moment, Ethan looked back.

When he saw me, there was a flicker of excitement in his eyes.

‘Soph-”

‘Sophia, want to grab hot pot after the gala tonight?”

Daniel Hart took my bag and naturally slipped an arm around waist.

Seeing this, Ethan’s words stuck in his throat.

At last, he realized-

Too late was simply too late.

And once missed, it meant forever.

my

But I knew nothing of his feelings. I was too busy chatting with Daniel about where to go for hot oot after the gala.

By then, Daniel was already my boyfriend.

Yet when he first pursued me, I had turned him down. I hadn’t had the courage to step intc another relationship.

When I rejected him, he didn’t seem surprised. He simply asked, with gentlemanly calm:

“May I know the reason?”

“Is it because you still love someone else, or because I haven’t done enough?”

I shook my head.

“No, you’re wonderful.”

“It’s me.”

“I once had a failed relationship. Men tend to think I’m a workaholic, that I don’t have time for family. I’m not the kind of traditional woman most men expect. If you’re with me, you’ll probably be disappointed.”

Daniel was taken aback for a second, then he suddenly smiled.

“So that’s all it is? Sophia, have you forgotten why I admire you?”

“I would never resent you for being a workaholic.”

“On the contrary, it’s exactly your determination that I love.”

“The Hart Family empire is much larger than the Miller Group. Perhaps your ex-husband wanted

a gentle, obedient housewife who would stay at home. But I’m different.”

“What I want is a partner who can fight by my side.”

His words moved me so deeply that my eyes burned with tears.

All this time, I had thought I was too busy-that maybe I didn’t deserve a man’s love.

But Daniel showed me otherwise.

just needed to be myself.

When flowers bloom, the butterflies will come on their own.

There was no need to change for anyone. The right person would adapt to me.

Because I was already enough.
