Overnight, Jaxon became everyone’s target. The looks of envy turned to disgust. 

His cheating scandal completely overshadowed the solid reputation he’d built over six years of hard work. 

Under all that pressure, Jaxon started screwing up at work constantly, even affecting project timelines. 

‘If you keep performing like this, I think we need to consider reassigning you temporarily to get your head 

straight.” 

When Madison found Jaxon, he reeked of alcohol and looked like hell-nothing like the confident guy from a 

nonth ago. 

He clenched his fists, watching six years of blood, sweat and tears crumble like an avalanche. 

He’d called me dozens of times, sent countless messages, but never got a response. 

My last few weeks in the States were insane busy. Even if he wanted to corner me in person, he could barely ind the opportunity. I had no time for his bullshit.

axon stood there frozen until I grabbed my jacket to leave, then he finally moved to pick up the candy. 

I was about to leave this office anyway, but I wanted to keep it clean until the end. 

At the coffee shop, we found a corner table and sat in silence.

Honestly, I had no idea what we could possibly talk about. 

He stared at the candy box for a long time, then suddenly smiled bitterly: 

“Do you remember the first time I gave you this candy?” 

That was six years ago, not long after we’d started dating. I’d collapsed in the office break room from 

overwork. 

Back then, Jaxon was still a nobody, but he left an important client dinner mid-meal and rushed to the hospital to take care of me. 

Because he bailed on that dinner, the clients got pissed and went with another employee’s design instead. 

But his design had been better-he’d had a real shot at the lead designer position. 

When I woke up and found out, I called him an idiot. How could he leave such an important dinner? I’d just 

had low blood sugar-nothing worth him freaking out over. 

But he held my hand and said, word for word, dead serious: 

Victoria, nothing in this world matters more than you do.” 

Now I wondered-when he said I “mattered,” did he mean me as a person, or the higher position I 

epresented back then? 

Mr. Reed, you planning to spend all ten minutes on memory lane?” I sipped my coffee casually. 

Time’s precious. Cut the unnecessary stuff.” 

axon stared at me, desperately searching my face for any sign of being moved, or nostalgia. 

Infortunately for him, he found nothing. 

Victoria, isn’t there any chance we could start over?” His voice cracked: 

Bella and I… yeah, we were using each other more than anything else.” 

But those six years with you were real.” 

I just… got blinded by other stuff for a second. Made a mistake…” 

I laughed and cut him off. 

“You didn’t make a mistake.”
