Chapter 12

When Ryan got back to the Reed house, he went straight to Stella’s door and hesitated before finally

knocking.

His mind was all over the place, trying to figure out how the hell he’d explain his behavior to her.

But he knocked for ages and got nothing.

Stella?” Ryan called out a few times.

le tried the handle the door wasn’t even locked.

–

He pushed it open and the room was completely empty.

lot just empty of people – every single thing that belonged to Stella was gone. Like no one had ever lived

here at all.

yan’s face went white. He gripped the doorframe, this sick feeling twisting in his gut.

Mrs. Reed happened to walk by, so he immediately asked: “Have you seen Stella today?”

Isn’t she in her room?” Mrs. Reed had never really paid attention to Stella, so she obviously didn’t care

where she’d gone.

All her stuff is gone.”

Mrs. Reed waved him off dismissively: “She’s got nowhere else to go besides here. Don’t worry about it – I’ve

lealt with plenty of stubborn kids like her. She’s probably just throwing a tantrum because we cut off her

cards.”

With that, Mrs. Reed walked away, leaving Ryan standing there alone,

Mrs. Reed had a point – Stella had already given up her apartment, so where else could she go besides the

Reed house?

But Ryan still couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

He dug up a number he hadn’t called in months and hit dial. Within seconds, that automated voice was telling him the number was disconnected.

Ryan froze, then quickly switched to WhatsApp to text Stella.

All he got was that brutal red exclamation mark message failed to deliver.
