Chapter 2 

I took a relatively high–paying job that wasn’t exactly respectable- 

Club waitress. 

With my departure looming, I didn’t have time to be picky. 

But I never expected that after just two weeks, I’d run into someone I knew. 

In the private room, Rayna was with two other girls and seven or eight guys, holding up a bottle: 

“That whole family’s braindead! Taking everything they have will be child’s play!” 

She sat on one of the guy’s laps as he traced her chin with his finger: 

“Our little Miss Mitchell is THAT good, huh?” 

“Damn right.” 

She wrapped her arms around his neck: 

“You know Dad donated five hundred million to the Ivy League in my name? With that kind of pull, I’m telling you…” 

“I could literally murder someone on campus and the board would cover for me.” 

“The Mitchell family’s gonna be mine and my brother’s kingdom!” 

The air reeked of more than just alcohol. I wrinkled my nose, trying to figure out what else I was smelling when Rayna started making out with four or five guys at once. 

I was so shocked by the scene that I didn’t notice her friend had spotted me. 

Next thing I knew, I was yanked into the room and kicked to the ground. 

“Who gave you permission to spy on us? Who sent you? TALK!” 

A red–haired girl grabbed my collar, pointing a bottle at my face. 

Only Rayna looked panicked: 

“H–Harper? What are YOU doing here?” 

The moment our eyes met, her face went white as a sheet. “Were you out there the whole time?” 

Before I could answer, noisy footsteps echoed from the hallway. 

Rayna and I both froze- 

Those voices… Dad and my brother! 

They seemed to be chatting with business partners.

Chapter 2 

I was about to stand up when Rayna suddenly rushed out like she’d been triggered: 

“Dad! Jaxon!” 

“Rayna?” 

The two men were shocked: 

“What are you doing in a place like this?” 

Rayna’s face was streaming with tears. “I didn’t want to come, but I got word that Harper was in a private room with a bunch of guys…” 

Dad and my brother’s eyes went wide. 

Next second, the door was kicked open. They stared in shock at the room full of people and me standing there frozen. 

Smelling the weird odor in the room, a hand cracked hard across my face: 

“You piece of shit! I should never have taken you in!” 

My brother grabbed my collar and backhanded me too: 

“Look at yourself–look what you’re wearing! How can you be so CHEAP?!” 

My mouth filled with the taste of blood as I shoved Jaxon away: 

“I just work here!” 

The guys immediately caught on: 

“Yeah, totally–sexy uniform roleplay.” 

Instantly, Dad and my brother’s faces went even darker. 

“Dad, Jax, I-”

A foot slammed into my stomach. The pain was so intense that cold sweat dripped down my face and all my words got stuck in my throat. 

“You little bitch! If your mother saw you like this, it would break her heart!” 

My back hit the wall and I slid down, completely drained of strength. 

My paycard slipped out of my pocket from the movement. 

My brother picked it up and raised an eyebrow: 

“What’s this? Your whoring money?” 

He gripped the card with both hands and SNAP–broke it in half: 

“Get the manager. Claw back every cent they paid this slut!”

Chapter 2 

“NO!” 

My eyes went wide. 

That was everything I’d earned in two weeks. 

Just ten more days and I’d have made up that last thousand! 

But now… it was all gone. 

With my departure so close, where was I gonna find another five grand? 

“Look how pathetic you are!” 

He threw the broken card at my face, then put his arm around Rayna, looking at me like garbage: 

“Be trashy all you want, but don’t drag Rayna down with you.” 

Dad didn’t even glance at me: 

“Rayna’s been carefully raised by the Mitchell family. If you corrupt her, don’t expect any mercy.” 

That same day, I was fired. 

With nowhere else to go, I returned to the mansion. 

It was empty. 

The staff told me that because Rayna had been traumatized by my “slutty behavior” at the club, the family had gone out to throw her a recovery party. 

Ignoring the staff’s weird looks, I stumbled back to my room and collapsed into bed. 

The next day, money appeared in my account. 

Exactly five thousand dollars.
