Chapter 1
Two years into marriage. I found out my husband’s ex, Amanda-who dumped him back then-was working at this nightclub I know well.
I kindly told the manager to take care of her.
But in the end, she marched over to me, all mad.
“Isabella, I know I’m poor. I know I can’t compete with your money.”
“But considering my mom’s mental illness-can you please just leave me be?”
This sentence happened to be heard by my husband Marcus Sinclair.
Later at home, he asks me real calm:
“When she broke up with me back then, did you have anything to do with it?”
I didn’t answer, Cause I know-his heart already wasn’t mine.
Instead of crying, I just rang my lawyers and had them draw up papers.
“Draft an agreement-I will seize the Sinclairs’ assets!”
Marcus found out Amanda was back, and it just happened to be on my birthday.
That morning, I was scrolling through Instagram when someone posted a pic of her.
Same hot figure from behind, but her face looked way thinner now.
In the shitty club lighting, she was on her knees in front of some guy-I had no idea what she was doing.
I called the guy who posted it right away.
Turns out she’s working at his nightclub now.
Making money selling drinks.
went quiet for a sec, tapping my fingers on the table.
‘She’s someone I used to know. Help me look out for her, yeah?”
The guy’s whole tone switched instantly-got all sweet and ready to please.
He totally got the hint and said he’d put Amanda on backstage stuff and make sure nobody messed with her.
And while he was at it, he deleted that Instagram post too.
hung up and walked into the bedroom.
Marcus was still asleep.
Morning light was streaming in, hitting his face-still gorgeous as ever.
But I wasn’t exactly thrilled.
Amanda wasn’t just someone I used to know. She was Marcus’s ex who’d ghosted him without a word.
From what I knew, Amanda had chased after him for five years.
During those five years, she’d made herself so small for him-even got his name tattooed right over her heart.
That crazy, innocent teenage love thing actually melted Marcus’s cold-ass heart.
She became his precious little doll.
All she had to do every day was be his girlfriend-didn’t have to worry about anything else.
Until their two year anniversary, when Marcus waited forever at some restaurant and Amanda never showed.
When he got home, he found out she’d just disappeared.
He tried everything but couldn’t track her down.
He was pretty bummed out, so at a family dinner during the holidays, he proposed to me right in front of all the relatives.
From getting engaged to getting married-just three months.
On our wedding day, he kept staring at the door.
I had no idea what he was looking at back then.
Just thought he was being weird.
He was holding my hand, about to put the ring on my finger, but his eyes kept going back to the door.
It felt like forever.
Like he was in a huff, he fumbled a little but twisted the ring onto my finger with a lot of force.
Until the after party when his buddy got totally drunk and told me the truth.
I found out his ex had run off.
He’d told everyone about our wedding-not because he loved me.
But to make sure that girl hiding somewhere would see it.
Wanted her to feel like crap and regret it enough to come back to him.
Marcus never got what he was hoping for.
But two years later, she just quietly showed up again on her own.
