Craving 53

Chapter53

The way he said ‘Ms. Chavez’ carried a hint of amusement.

“Morning.” Harriet smiled at him, feeling it was rare for

someone to even notice her.

While Ellsworth chatted with people at the restaurant entrance,

Harriet quietly stood by his side.

At that moment, Kelsey and a few other women arrived.

When Harriet saw Kelsey, Kelsey saw her too.

Their eyes met. Harriet looked calmly at Kelsey, but Ellsworth

immediately let go of her hand.

Withdrawing her gaze from Kelsey, Harriet turned to look at

Ellsworth.

He let go of her hand as soon as he saw Kelsey-how pragmatic

he was.

He really did care about Kelsey.

Turning her face, Harriet looked up at Ellsworth, only to see him

staring straight at Kelsey, his eyes full of gentleness.

As if… they hadn’t spent the night in the same room, as if she

hadn’t helped him with his tie that morning, as if he hadn’t just

held her hand.

“Kelsey.”

“Kelsey.”

“Kel.”

As Kelsey approached, the restaurant entrance grew even

livelier, with everyone enthusiastically greeting her.

Unconsciously, Harriet was left out of the crowd.

Whether in the past or now, she had never been able to fit into

Ellsworth’s circle, nor into his life.

She felt like an extra.

“Ells, you’re here for breakfast too? I heard the hotel’s breakfast

is pretty good.”

“Mm.” Ellsworth replied unhurriedly.

Standing aside, Harriet thought about how Ellsworth avoided

her, and how the lively scene before her had nothing to do with

her. She quietly withdrew from the crowd and turned away

without a word.

Just as Harriet was about to leave, Kelsey suddenly called out

to her, “Hara.”

Harriet turned back. Kelsey stepped out of the crowd, smiling as she greeted her, “Hara, you’re here too? When did you arrive?

Why didn’t you tell me?”

“We all had dinner together last night. If I’d known you were

coming, I would’ve invited you to join us.”

In response to Kelsey’s enthusiasm, Harriet smiled faintly and

called, “Kelsey.”

It was only when Kelsey greeted Harriet that everyone else

realized she was there too.

Looking at Harriet, they didn’t greet her, just whispered among

themselves.

In fact, some had already noticed Harriet earlier, but since

Ellsworth didn’t pay her any mind and was talking to Kelsey,

they ignored her too.

Chapter 53

After all, Ellsworth had never acknowledged her, never acknowledged their marriage, not even held a wedding.

Ellsworth’s attitude toward Harriet was also their attitude

toward her.

Despite Harriet’s politeness, Kelsey warmly took her hand and said with a smile, “Hara, we’re just about to have breakfast. Join

us.”

Harriet smiled and replied, “Kelsey, you all go ahead. I asked my secretary to bring me some documents, so I have to wait for

her.”

Kelsey looked disappointed. “I see. Then we’ll go in first. Come

find us later.”

Harriet nodded with a smile. “Okay, I’ll come find you later.”

In fact, she had planned to have breakfast, but Kelsey’s words

felt like a reminder of something.

However, she didn’t want to join them.

When Harriet mentioned her secretary, only then did Ellsworth

turn to look at her.

Chapter 53

Meeting Ellsworth’s gaze, Harriet smiled and said, “I asked

Jolene to bring me some materials. I’ll wait for her. You go

ahead.”

Ellsworth stood in the middle of the crowd, surrounded by his

and Kelsey’s supporters.

It was as if there were mountains and armies between the two

of them.

Harriet’s explanation didn’t elicit much reaction from Ellsworth.

Seeing this, Kelsey took Ellsworth’s arm and said to Harriet,

“Hara, we’ll wait for you inside.”

“Mm.” Harriet nodded, and the crowd turned and walked into

the restaurant.

Watching everyone leave, Harriet felt a sense of relief.

She hadn’t actually asked Jolene to bring her anything; it was

just that such a lively scene wasn’t for her.

Even more so, it wasn’t suitable for her, Ellsworth, and Kelsey to

appear together.

Watching Ellsworth walk away and thinking about how he had

suddenly let go of her hand, Harriet could only smile wryly.

Her smile was tinged with helplessness.

She watched the crowd for a while, saw them sit down on the

left side of the restaurant, then finally looked away, quietly

entered the restaurant, grabbed some breakfast at random, and

sat down at a table on the right.

She sat far from Ellsworth and Kelsey, not disturbing them.

Over on the other side, as Kelsey ate her own breakfast, she

would occasionally taste something from Ellsworth’s bowl.

Everyone saw Kelsey’s actions as perfectly normal.

If anyone was out of place, it was Harriet’s earlier appearance that was truly awkward and out of sync.

When Kelsey once again ate from Ellsworth’s bowl, Ellsworth

put down his fork.

He raised his right hand and glanced at his watch-it was 8:40.

He looked around the restaurant absentmindedly.
