Chapter 17
Anya covered her swollen cheek, glaring at Henry with resentment. “I said what I said! Kate is a bitch! She’s a bitch! How could-”
Anya’s head tilted to the side, her eyes wide in disbelief. She had never expected Henry to treat her like this.
“You hit me? You hit me again for that bitch Kate? Didn’t you say you didn’t love her at all?”
“Didn’t you say she only married you for your family’s fortune?”
“Then why do you keep hitting me for her? What’s wrong with me helping you get rid of that little bastard?”
Henry thought of Andrew’s timid face, the one that had always frightened him and felt as if a knife was cutting into his heart.
He had actually pushed his own child away for an outsider.
“Shut up! I’ll make you pay a hundredfold for everything you did to Kate!”
A fierce look flashed in Henry’s eyes as he ordered his bodyguards to restrain Anya. After giving his instructions, he left the basement.
When the door closed, it shut out Anya’s screams.
With the noise gone, Henry took out his phone and opened my chat. He was about to send a message, but after seeing the one I had ignored, he instead opened his contacts.
Finding my name at the bottom of the list, he tapped it with a trembling hand.
The call rang until it hung up on its own. No one answered.
Henry’s uneasiness grew. Refusing to give up, he kept calling me, over and over, each time waiting for it to end the same way.
Before, whenever Henry called, I answered almost instantly.
Now, no matter how many times he tried, the result was the same: no answer. At that moment, Henry was sure I had truly left him.
And that I truly didn’t want him anymore.
As tears blurred his vision, Henry suddenly thought of Sophie.
Henry showed up again at the door of Sophie’s villa. This time, Sophie opened it with an angry look and asked in a cold tone, “What is it?”
“Sister, do you know where Kate is?” A flicker of hope lit Henry’s eyes as he grabbed Sophie’s arm. “Please, tell me where she is. I haven’t signed yet, so we’re still legally married. I won’t let her leave me.”
Seeing the madness in his eyes, Sophie’s face filled with disdain. “When you were diagnosed with asthenospermia, I started looking for a good woman. Then I saw Kate was a good person and I owed her a favor, so I let her meet you.”
“But what did you do? After she got pregnant, you didn’t take care of her, you even cheated on
her!”
“How could my Taylor Family produce a scumbag like you? My biggest regret back then was
giving Kate to you.”
The deep regret in Sophie’s eyes stung Henry and he suddenly tightened his grip. “Kate can only be my wife! She was, is and always will be.”
“I was deceived at first! It was that agreement you made with her that made me misjudge her, making me think she came to me for the Taylor Family fortune…”
Hearing this, Sophie laughed in anger and shook off his hand. “Henry, do you really think I have such poor judgment? Besides, Kate’s job paid just as well as yours.”
“I truly regret letting Kate be with a piece of trash like you.”
