Chapter 15

The sound of rain pattered steadily.

Henry heard it clearly, along with the sarcasm in Anya’s smile.

Was she mocking his lack of medical knowledge?

His Adam’s apple moved as he asked coldly, “Would a half-formed embryo kick you?”

Anya froze on the other end, not expecting him to say that.

In the past, words like this from her were an invitation to bed. But now, Henry ignored them and even acted as if he were seriously questioning her.

Anya calmed herself, smiled and whispered, “Henry, what are you saying? Have you forgotten ou agreement? You confessed to me under the fireworks that day and even said you’d let me—”

‘Anya, just wait for me at home.”

Too lazy to listen further, Henry threw out the words and hung up.

Then he drove away. When he returned to the villa, Anya was still wearing my pajamas, her slender white legs swinging as she looked at Henry with seductive eyes.

‘Henry, this is the first time you’ve hung up on me. You used to…”

‘What about me? What does my past have to do with you?” Henry’s hair dripped with water.

Soaking wet, he never received the towel I would have handed him.

He looked at Anya, sitting on the sofa and complaining about herself and felt a moment of daze.

At that moment, he wished it were me on the sofa.

No.

If it were me, I would have already prepared a table of dishes the moment he said he was coming back. I would have been waiting at the door with an umbrella to keep him out of the rain.

When Henry came back to his senses, he met Anya’s probing gaze and asked coldly, “Anya, are you hiding something from me?”

He was giving her a chance. Thinking I had told on her, Anya burst into tears. “I know I don’t like you, but I didn’t expect you to go so far as to slander me in front of him…”

“Henry, seeing you like this, have you chosen not to believe me? So you don’t want me and our baby anymore?”

She stomped barefoot on the carpet, her face full of dominance.

Henry rubbed his brows, his head spinning, his vision blurring.

Anya, in front of him, seemed to split into several.

He reached out to touch her, but his hand met only air. “Anya, you…”

Before he could finish, his vision went black and he collapsed to the floor.

Anya watched him fall but didn’t move. She went to the sofa, turned on the TV and began watching a heartbreaking romance.

Some time later, when Henry slowly woke up, he saw Anya sitting on the sofa, casually watching TV and eating potato chips.

He staggered to his feet.

Sensing movement, Anya quickly put down her chips and ran into his arms. “Henry, don’t scare me like that again. You worried me so much.”

“You were worried, yet you left me lying on the floor and ignored me?” Henry’s voice grew colder

with each word.

Exposed, Anya didn’t reflect at all. Instead, she threw a tantrum. “You doubted me, so I had to teach you a lesson. You’re the one who said mistakes deserve punishment. Are you blaming me

now?”
