I had moved into Thomas’s place.
However, Gerard kept showing up.
One day, while Thomas was away on a business trip, I was heading downstairs for a walk when Gerard blocked my
way.
“Leonie, we need to talk.”
I stepped around him and said coldly, “Mr. Larson, I have nothing to say to you.”
“My last name isn’t Larson!” Gerard snapped, his voice rising. “Leonie, it’s me–Gerard Morgan! I’m your husband. We’ve been together for ten years! How can you forget me?”
I looked at him–this man who was losing control in front of me–and honestly, I just thought it was kind of pathetic.
I remembered when he first found out I had transient global amnesia–he looked so thrilled, like he had won some kind of prize.
And now, he was suddenly heartbroken?
“Fine, Mr. Morgan,” I smirked. “Whether you’re Mr. Morgan or Mr. Larson, I honestly don’t care. You’re not in my memories anymore. So stop bothering me.”
I turned to leave.
However, Gerard grabbed my wrist.
His eyes were red, and he sounded desperate. “Leonie, you must be worried about Claudia, right? Don’t worry, I al- ready broke up with her, and the baby is also gone. I swear, I’ll start over with you. Just come back to me, okay?”
“No.” I pulled my hand away and gave him a cold smile. “You know what, Mr. Morgan? I finally get it now. You’re a cheating, selfish jerk. You betrayed me and still want everything your way? You think you can get away with every- thing?”
“Okay, fine! If you come back to me, I’ll let you punish me however you want…”
However, before he could finish, I heard the roar of a car engine coming from behind.
“Leonie, watch out!”
I did not even get a chance to turn around before something slammed into me. It was a speeding sports car.

When I opened my eyes again, I saw two men standing by my bed, both looking super worried.
“Leonie, you’re finally awake!”
Gerard’s eyes were red as he dropped to his knees next to me. He started slapping himself repeatedly. “This is all my fault, Leonie! I dragged you into this! Thank God you’re not seriously hurt. I swear, if anything had happened to you,
I wouldn’t forgive myself. But don’t worry, Claudia’s been arrested. I’ll hire the best lawyer and make sure she pays for what she did! I won’t let her off the hook!”
His voice was so loud and frantic that it made my head pound.
I frowned and cut him off, annoyed. “Who even are you? What are you talking about?”
Gerard froze, completely shocked. “Leonie, you don’t remember? You lost your memory again?”
“I don’t remember anything.”
Suddenly, Gerard jumped to his feet, his face lighting up. His lips were trembling with excitement. “That’s okay! Leonie, I’m your husband, Gerard Morgan! It doesn’t matter if you’ve forgotten–I’ll stay with you, and we’ll find a way to get your memory back. Look, I even brought our marriage certificate…”
He pulled out a crumpled old document from his pocket and pointed at the names.
“See? That’s you, and that’s me. We’re married. I’m your husband. You don’t need to worry, we can start fresh.”
“Stop right there.” I frowned deeper and interrupted him coldly. “Mr. Morgan, I don’t know you. And I’m pretty sure I would never like someone like you. I don’t know where you got that marriage certificate–maybe you tricked me into it somehow. Regardless, I want a divorce.”
“What did you say?”
It was like I slapped him. His face went pale, and his voice cracked. “Leonie, I’ve loved you for so many years. Even if you lost your memory, how can you still not want to be with me? How can you say you want a divorce?”
“I don’t remember you, Mr. Morgan. And I don’t see you as my husband.”
Gerard suddenly snapped. He shouted, “What do you want from me? Every time you forget everything, you accept random guys pretending to be me–even ones that don’t look anything like me! But I’m your actual husband! Why do you keep pushing me away?”
Even as he yelled, I stayed calm.
If he had not messed things up in the first place, would any of this have happened?
He made this bed, and now he had to lie in it.
Gerard kept screaming until his face turned pale. Then, all of a sudden, he dropped to his knees, grabbed his stomach, and vomited a huge mouthful of blood.

Chapter 7
Thomas quickly called the nurses.
They rushed in and forced Gerard onto a stretcher and wheeled him off to the emergency room.
Once things quieted down, Thomas came and sat next to my bed.
He hesitated, then asked softly, “Leonie, do you still remember me?”
I shook my head. “No. I don’t.”
His hands clenched, and I could see his eyes go a little red.
“Try a little harder? I’m…”
“I’m tired,” I cut him off. “Can you leave? I want to sleep.”
