Chapter 9 

After that, I never saw Sampson again for a long time. 

I poured myself into the affairs of my pack. I would either call or meet up with Lambert in person to speak with him about work. 

Over time, the two of us grew closer, and the awkwardness between us slowly disappeared. 

Instead of associates, we were more like friends. 

One day, when I arrived at Lambert’s office to talk about some business regarding the Moonstones, I accidentally saw a photo frame on his desk. On his desk was a photo of me from my school days. 

What was going on? Why would Lambert have a photo of me on his desk? 

From the angle, it was obvious that it was taken secretly. He had even framed it carefully. 

Lambert froze for a little bit before nervously covering the photo. “It’s nothing. It’s 

someone else.” 

His panic had only confirmed what I already suspected. 

I blinked slowly, then said meaningfully, “Oh, I see. It was someone else. Originally, I was going to ask if you wanted to date me. But I guess that’s just wishful thinking on my part. Forget about it, then.” 

“Wait! You didn’t make a mistake! This person is you,” Lambert hurriedly said. 

He picked up the photo and handed it to me. 

“I took it secretly. It was during an excursion when I was still in school. I saw you and I couldn’t resist, so I took this photo,” Lambert said, no longer hiding the affection in his 

eyes. 

There was no need for words.

“I fell for you the moment I saw you. Will you be my Luna?” he asked me, his voice filled 

with deep affection. 

I held his hand and smiled. “The trial period is three months. Whether anything becomes official will depend on your performance.” 

Lambert couldn’t suppress the joy inside of him; he almost jumped as he said excitedly, 

“We’re done for the day, anyway. Let’s go have some Salamanders.” 

After I married Sampson, I never ate any Salamanders. 

However, Lambert practically took me to all the eateries that served Salamanders in the city. We ran under the moonlight together, and I rediscovered all the hobbies I once gave up all those years for Sampson’s sake. 

Just as we stepped outside, however, a figure dropped to her knees with a loud thud in front 

of me–it was Desiree. 

“I beg you, Bethany!” she sobbed. “Sampson’s been missing for three days, and I can’t find 

him!” 

Desiree knelt in front of me, her eyes red. She kept on grabbing my leg, begging me to help her find Sampson. 

I frowned and exchanged a glance with Lambert. Then, I said to Desiree, “Get up! Start from the beginning and tell me what happened.” 

Desiree’s face was pale, as if she had experienced something dreadful. 

“After Sampson lost his position as Alpha,” she sobbed, “he replaced other warriors to patrol our borders. But then, the entire squad had mysteriously disappeared. I couldn’t contact Sampson, and I tried searching for him for three days. I don’t know what else to do other than seek your help.” 

I pressed my lips together. “Desiree, have you ever considered that he might be faking his disappearance to deceive you, too?”

Desiree shook her head and said confidently, “No! Sampson would never lie to me!”

I sighed. “I’m familiar with that place. Call the rescue team. I’ll search for him with you.” 

I tried dragging Lambert, but he wouldn’t budge. I could see the reluctance in his eyes. 

“No need to be so serious about this. We’ll just put on an act. I know he’s faking it again,” I 

whispered in his ear. 

Lambert sighed, but still gave the order for the rescue team to start the search.
