Chapter 19

She assumed Ellsworth had left last night. To her surprise, after

she dressed up and went out, she saw his car blocking hers.

She walked over to the black Maybach, and he rolled down the

window, his voice lazy. “Get in.”

“I’ll drive over myself,” she said.

Resting both hands on the steering wheel, he shrugged. “Then

neither of us is leaving today!”

She parted her lips but didn’t know what to say.

The standoff lasted for a few seconds. Sensing that he wasn’t

going to back down, she reached for the back door.

But it was locked.

She could only turn to him again and said, “Could you unlock

the door?”

Looking at her, he said, his voice flat, “Take the front seat.”

She stood in place for a while before stepping forward and

opening the passenger door gently.

On the way to the company, he glanced at her occasionally.

Feeling a bit uneasy, she tried to come up with a subject. “You’re

quite scared of Patsy.”

He smiled, “She’s the most nagging person I’ve ever met. If you

were me, you’d be scared of her, too.”

After saying this, he became serious. “Those ongoing projects

are our top priority. The divorce can wait.”

Hearing this, Harriet couldn’t help but turn to look at him.

She didn’t understand why. In her mind, the moment she

proposed a divorce, he should’ve dragged her straight to the

courthouse to finalize the paperwork. None of his actions

added up, least of all last night in bed.

Now she knew why. It was all about the company.

She stared at his side profile and calmly asked, “For how long?”

Still gripping the steering wheel, Ellsworth let out a cold laugh.

“Why? Are you this eager to leave me?”

Harriet explained, “I didn’t mean that. I just wanna make plans

for my future in advance.”

In fact, she had already sent her resume to Galaxy Innovations

a few days ago. The CEO had personally replied to her, saying

she could start at any time.

It was early May now, and she planned on finalizing her

resignation this month and reporting for the new job next

month. The divorce shouldn’t be put on hold for too long.

Ellsworth said, “About a month or so.”

About a month or so? That might work.

Pondering, she said, “Alright.”

Soon, they arrived at work. Ellsworth tossed the car keys to the

head of the security before entering the building together with

Harriet.

“Mr. Townsend showed up with Ms. Chavez today!”

“Does that mean Mr. Townsend needs her to cover up for him

again?”

“Morning, Mr. Townsend. Morning, Ms. Chavez.”

“Good morning, Mr. Townsend, Ms. Chavez.”

Harriet acknowledged the employees’ greetings by nodding slightly, while Ellsworth responded with nothing but a glance,

still tucking his hands in his pockets as always.

Their joint appearance caused quite a stir in the company.

Everyone gabbled excitedly.

Some even placed bets-were they just keeping up appearances,

or had they really grown feelings for each other?

Almost everyone bet on the former.

At around 11:00 a.m., Harriet stepped out of another VP’s office

with two documents in hand.

Just then, Kelsey’s voice rang out from ahead. “Hara.”

Harriet looked over and greeted her politely, “Hey, Kelsey.”

Kelsey walked over to her and said with a warm smile, “I

brought you some desserts. They’re on your desk.”

Harriet said, “Thank you, Kelsey. But you really don’t have to do this again. It’s too much trouble.”

Kelsey casually reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind Harriet’s ear. “Don’t say that. We’re friends, right?

Friends do things for each other.”

As she withdrew her hand, Harriet spotted a platinum diamond

ring on her ring finger.

The ring was plain and gender-neutral. She vaguely

remembered seeing it somewhere before.

Ellsworth stepped out of his office as she was trying to recall.
