Chapter 16

Russell stormed off, too furious to strike his son again.

While Alexander recuperated, he began reasserting control over what little remained of the Rockwood estate. He had once been the family’s golden boy–the one who’d brought Rockwood Holdings to its peak.

To him, the current mess was just a bump in the road. He’d handled worse.

Once he felt comfortable back in the business world, he turned his full attention to winning Allison back.

Every dayhe sent a fresh bouquet of roses to her doorstep.

He even hired people to take turns playing love confession videos outside her home.

In the video, Alexander appeared freshly groomed, smiling softly into the camera. “Allie, I was blind before. But I know now–it’s always been you. Just give me one more chance, and I promise, I’ll make you the happiest woman alive.”

Allison was sick of it.

She had the guards throw out the delivery crew every time, but it never stopped. The taces just kept changing. And then one day, Alexander showed up himself.

ha massive bouquet of roses in his arms.

He pulled up in the only Rolls–Royce the Rockwoods had left, stepped out with a

“Allle, I came to take you home,” he said with a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “We’ll drive out to the cliffs tonight, just like old times. Tomorrow, we’ll hit the water, chase the sunrise. And after that… maybe disappear somewhere no one can find us.”

“All those things I never did for you before–I’ll make up for every last one of them ”

“I’ve already filed to reinstate my legal identity. Once that’s cleared, the death certificate will be nullified. And that means our marriage is still valid. You’ll always be my wife

His tone was sweet, but there was an edge buried underneath–one that didn’t go unnoticed.

Allison frowned, unsure whether to believe him.

Quinn had appeared at some point, stepping up behind her. He wrapped a casual arm around her waist, guiding her forward.

“Assuming you can get your identity reinstated,” Quinn said, voice laced with mockery, “You really think the Rockwoods have a chance in hell of rising from the grave?”

“Quinn, this is between me and my wife,” Alexander snapped, “You’re nothing but a vulture, taking shots while I was gone. But now that I’m back, I’m taking back everything–my company and my wife.”

“Allie, don’t be afraid. I’ll bring you home where you belong.”

Allison gave soft laugh, gently patted Quinn’s arm, then stepped toward Alexander on her own

She reached out and picked up the roses from his hand.

Alexander’s eyes lit up with hope. He lanew it. Deep down, she still loved him,

Smack

She whipped the roses straight into his face. The thorns ripped his cheek, drawing a thin line of blood.

He stood there stunned.

bever even liked roses,” she said coldly. “That was your sweet Sarah’s thing.”

‘My love for you died a long time ago, Alexander. Every time you chose her over me, every time you inade me beg for scraps of affection -I bled that love dry.”

Chapter 16

Col

“Being with Quinn was my decision. And it was the best damn one I’ve ever made.”

“You killed my father. And I will never forgive you for that. As for that whole ‘our marriage will valid‘ crap? I’d love to see you try

and make that happen.”

Her voice was sharp, her expression like frost–pure rage wrapped in elegance.

Alexander felt the words tear through him like glass. His chest burned like

She wasn’t the same girl he’d left behind.

it had been split open

“I didn’t mean to kill him…” he stammered, stepping back instinctively. “I–I was just trying to scare you. I didn’t know it’d go that far.”

Crack

She slapped him hard across the face. “Stay away from me. The only thing left between us is hate. And I won’t stop until we settle this for good.”

Alexander stared at her in disbeltet, unable to comprehend the hatred in her eyes.

“No. No, you still love me,” he insisted. “You always came back before. You were just angry. Tell me what I have to do. Just tell me and 1 make it right

“I wouldn’t forgive you if you died trying

Allison turned without another glance, slipping her hand into Quinn’s as they walked away together.

Alexander stood frozen in place, eyes locked on her retreating figure, lips trembling

“You’re lying,” he muttered.

“You must be lying to me.
