Chapter 9 

Evelyn stood there in shock. 

In that moment, she didn’t know if she was more angry or sadder. 

She only heard her own cold questioning, “Do you have to protect her like this?”

This sentence hit Evelyn like a sledgehammer. 

He didn’t even have this much trust in her.

After a long while, Evelyn took a deep breath and stood up, scanning the people in the boardroom before resigning herself.

She never looked at Martin again and walked straight out of the door. 

Facing numerous surprised or disdainful gazes, Evelyn walked to her workstation and began to tidy up her belongings. 

Jenny rushed over, clearly having received the news, and cautiously asked, “Evelyn, are you okay?”

When Evelyn was taken to the hospital, she was in so much pain that she couldn’t open her eyes.
