Chapter 6 

Rhys chuckled, watching me clench my fists to contain my anger. Ile casually swung his leg and pulled Lily closer, 

“Don’t misunderstand, Camden. Lily and I are getting married. Best not to leave loose ends between us.” 

He was flaunting how quickly things had progressed with Lily right in front of me. 

After a pause, his sharp eyes shifted to Julian, his tone condescending: “Going from me to still pining after me.” 

He twirled the lingerie on his finger, a pointed reminder of our passionate past. 

this bland substitute? I don’t blame you for 

But comparing the two men… wasn’t Rhys the one who seemed jealous, deliberately coming to Northbrook to flaunt the past? 

I crossed my arms but couldn’t resist brushing my foot against Julian’s calf. A vengeful urge surged within me. 

Julian stood tall with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, his eyes reflecting a darkly beautiful intensity. How dare Rhys suggest he was inferior? 

“Looking back, I think my standards were embarrassingly low. I used to swallow anything,” I said coolly. “A woman needs a man who’s clean and proper.” 

I trailed my finger along Julian’s exposed forearm where veins subtly protruded, then smiled sweetly at Lily. “Lily, I speak from experience. Before you marry him, you might want to get tested.” 

Rhys’s face turned ashen while I continued, “Men who run around in the streets aren’t the same as those raised in proper homes. They’re filthy.” 

“Camden, you…” Rhys’s fist clenched so tightly I thought he might shatter his glass. 

Julian stepped forward, positioning himself as a shield between us. 

“Mr. Keller, I believe my lady is tired. If you’re here for business, you’re welcome. If not, I’ll have to ask you to leave.” 

He delivered this dismissal with his trademark polite smile. 

Though Julian was leaner than Rhys, he stood several inches taller. I barely reached his shoulder when I looked up at him. 

I tugged at his sleeve and whispered, “But you haven’t brought me my milk yet…” 

Julian turned slightly, and Rhys caught me playfully touching him from behind. 

With a humorless smile, Rhys abruptly pulled Lily against him. “Perhaps we’ll stay at the Hayes estate tonight and discuss business 

tomorrow?” 

“Whatever,” I replied. 

After all, we had no future together anyway. 

After my shower, I discovered that Rhys and Lily had chosen the room adjacent to mine. 

The Hayes family mansion wasn’t particularly soundproof. 

Standing outside the bathroom for just a moment, I overheard their passionate kissing through the wall. 

“Rhys, why haven’t you thrown that lingerie away yet? Doesn’t it disgust you?” Lily asked.

Rhys held the back of her head but lowered his eyes, his demeanor suddenly cold. 

“I just wanted to remind Camden how pathetic she looked begging beneath me,” he said. “As if that weak looking julian could satisfy her? She’s obviously just found another man to make me jealous.” 

I found his assumptions almost amusing. 

I had more class than to use another man just to make Rhys jealous. 

Turning around, I collided with Julian’s obsidian eyes. He’d come to deliver my warm milk, but tonight was different. Silendy, he placed the milk on the table and turned to leave. 

When Julian was angry, he had a habit of deliberately slowing his pace. 

I rose to my tiptoes, suddenly feeling mischievous. I grabbed his wrist, my gaze traveling downward. 

His black bathrobe revealed hints of abdominal muscle definition. Further down, everything remained carefully concealed. 

“You heard everything, right?” I asked, softening my voice. 

Julian’s eyes darkened as he nodded. 

I pretended to contemplate for a moment, taking a small sip of milk. 

“So, Julian, are you capable or not?” 

The moment those words left my lips, Julian locked the door behind him. 

I felt his knee pressed between my legs, and an inexplicable heat rushed through me. 

“Do you understand what you’re asking, Camden?” Julian’s breath came closer, wisps of damp hair falling across his forehead. 

The pale coldness of his face took on an eerie, ghostlike quality that was strangely seductive. 

I stammered, my ears turning red, but maintained my bravado. 

“That time I caught you, it was obvious that…” 

Before I could finish, Julian covered my mouth with his hand.
