Rick continued, “Dad has always admired those with courage and capability. Otherwise, he wouldn’t value Victoria as much as he does. If you go pleading to him now, Silas, he won’t feel sympathy–he’ll feel disappointment. In fact, he may grow even more impressed with Sharon, 2

Silas froze. He knew Rick was right, but the truth burned bitterly in his chest. His eyes reddened with frustration. 

“Sharon’s got no damn brains. Someone’s clearly pulling the strings for her!” 

Rick’s voice was calm, almost indifferent. 

“Connections are part of strength, Silas. If Dad learns there’s someone powerful backing Sharon, don’t you think that would make him value her even more?”

Silas fell silent, unable to argue. He knew, deep down, that he had lost this round completely. 

Seeing the defeat written all over his brother’s face, Rick softened his tone. 

“Silas, let it go. The company’s gone, but you’re still young. You have time to start over again. Your private firm may have collapsed, but your position in the Kalen Group still stands. Focus on that. Managing Kalen Group well may serve you better than running your own company. 

Silas gave a faint, bitter smile. The world moved fast now–too fast. The era of easy success was long gone. Starting over sounded simple, but in reality, it was anything but. 

Rick turned to Scott. “Scott, keep an eye on him. Talk some sense into him.” 

Scott nodded. “I will.” 

At that moment, Victoria was in Jamie’s office. 

She’d heard Silas mention a collaboration with Jamie before, though she hadn’t pressed for details. Getting too involved in matters concerning Sharon was never wise. 

Still, Silas’s company collapsing overnight had taken her by surprise. She’d come straight to Jamie for answers. 

Jamie didn’t bother hiding the truth–he told her everything that had happened. 

When he finished, Victoria frowned slightly.. 

“This whole situation is… strange.” 

Jamie poured her a cup of tea. “Nothing strange about it. Ever since Sharon came up with the funds to acquire Silverstone Group’s shares, I’ve had my suspicions. Bringing down Julliard’s company was simply my way of testing whether my theory was correct.” 

Victoria lifted her gaze to meet his. For a moment, their eyes held, and both saw the same realization reflected

in the other’s expression. 

Thomas was helping Sharon. 

Jamie said, “Sharon didn’t take money from Carter or anyone else, yet within three days, she managed to raise an enormous sum. When Julliard’s company hit a crisis, she invested around two billion dollars there. That means Sharon had at least fifty billion in her hands.” 1 

His eyes darkened. 

If not for that two billion injection, he and Silas wouldn’t have underestimated her. That single move had upended their calculations–allowing Sharon to swoop in and buy Silas’s company at rock bottom. 

She’d won–and decisively. 

Victoria couldn’t make sense of it. “But why would Thomas help her? Did they strike some kind of deal?” 

Jamie let out a low, derisive laugh. 

“Thomas? His ruthlessness puts even me to shame. A wolf of his caliber, working with a little white rabbit like Sharon? Hardly.” 

After discovering who Thomas truly was, Jamie had quietly sent people to investigate him. 

But the Ferrero family was a mystery. They rarely interacted with outsiders, and their leadership changed so frequently that few in the business world even bothered keeping tabs on them anymore.
