Everett reminded Valerie over the phone, “One of my clients runs an internet troll farm. He let slip over drinks last night that someone hired several waves of trolls to drop a damaging scandal tied to Woodward Group. 

“The target is the Woodward family’s estranged daughter, so my first thought was whether you had gotten into trouble again.” 

Everett knew bits and pieces about Valerie’s feud with the Woodwards. He had a vague guess that this had something to do with the mansion transfer a while back. 

If he could guess it, Valerie could too. After last night’s escalated mess at the club, followed by Jay’s relapse and the Woodward family’s failed attempt to get her kidney, they had clearly decided to try 

another route. 

When she didn’t respond, Everett asked, “I know that troll pretty well. Shall I tell him to back off?” 

“Don’t bother. Let the Woodwards do whatever they want,” Valerie said. 

“Don’t underestimate the power of the internet. A few thousand people behind screens can destroy someone overnight,” he warned. 

“Even if your troll refuses the job because of a personal favor, countless others will wait in line to take the money. Let’s just wait and see what happens. I’m curious what kind of show they’ll put on.” 

Just after ending the call with Everett, Valerie spotted a familiar figure approaching. It was Yvette from the Department of Law, whose eyes were red and swollen, clearly from crying. 

When she spotted Valerie standing tall and still, she paused briefly before forcing a smile. “Oh, Valerie. I heard from Owen that you signed up for the tech challenge sponsored by Guldner Group.” 

Valerie nodded lightly. “Just doing it for the credits.” 

As someone who came from the north, Yvette had interacted with Valerie a few times and had a great impression of the latter. “Just tell me if you need anything. I have some pull in the student council, so don’t be shy about asking for favors.” 

Valerie accepted her kindness. After a moment’s thought, she asked, “Why were you crying?” 

Yvette awkwardly wiped her face and laughed. “It’s nothing. The wind was strong and got dust in my eyes.” 

“Fine. If you don’t want to talk, I won’t push.”

confide in her.

Valerie kept a straight face and shook her head. “I’ve heard of Ardent, the character from Arkalian 

movies.” 

Yvette, who’d been on the verge of sobbing, couldn’t help but laugh before she rambled on excitedly, “I’m talking about Ascendant, as in Ascendant for the astrological sign. 

“He’s the captain of Star Juggernaut Gaming Team, who’s coming to Windmere for a game next 

month. 

“The tickets are only available online, and honestly, they’re nearly impossible to get.” 

She’d been Star Juggernaut Gaming Team’s number one female fan since its early days. In her free time, she was deeply into mobile gaming, especially Honor of Kings, which Ascendant played. 

Many Arcton University students were fans of Ascendant, and they were all scrambling to get tickets for next month’s game.
