Zachary propped himself up on one arm beside Jessica. Sweat trickled down his chin and dripped onto Jessica’s neck.Â
Her neck was already damp with a fine sheen of perspiration. His tanned skin glistened under the light, slick with sweat. Right now, he radiated raw, masculine energy.Â
Jessica’s slender hand still clung weakly to his neck as her feet that had been wrapped around his waist slowly slid down.Â
“Little devil…” He could feel her heartbeat, see the rosy flush on her face.Â
It was all so inviting and delectable.Â
“You should rest now,” he said before he leaned down and pressed a hot, trembling kiss to herÂ
lips.Â
Jessica did not reply. Her throat felt raw.Â
Zachary was not gentle at all. Just like his usual self, he was cold and composed with that intimidating edge that kept people at a distance.Â
Jessica did not expect him to be even rougher in bed.Â
If they were not already married, she would have called him a beast.Â
After taking a shower, Zachary was working at his computer.Â
Jessica sat on the couch opposite him, sketching on her tablet.Â
“Zachary,” she called.Â
“Yes?” he responded carelessly.Â
She bit her lower lip, gathered her courage, then asked, “Is your leg still okay?”Â
“Okay enough to make you feel good.” A crooked smile tugged at his lips as he turned his gaze toward her.Â
Her face flamed red. She swallowed hard and lowered her head, not daring to ask again.Â
He was right, though. He was indeed very skilled…Â
She had taken a peek in the shower earlier. There was only a bullet–sized scar on his leg withÂ

no other wounds visible.Â
After three years, it must have fully healed.Â
“I’ll probably be home late tomorrow night. Don’t wait for me.Â
“Okay.” Jessica let out a sigh of relief.Â

Finally, there was a chance to rest. If this kept up, any number of supplements would not be enough to replenish her energy.Â
Zachary looked up slightly, catching the hint of a smile tugging at her lips.Â
His lips twitched. “You seem happy.”Â
“No, I just-” She was seen through in an instant.Â
“I’m meeting some old comrades. Want to come along?”Â
“I’ll pass. You guys go on ahead. I’m not really used to those kinds of settings.”Â
It would likely be a bunch of men eating, drinking, and maybe even calling in a few femaleÂ
escorts for fun. If she showed up, she would only ruin their mood.Â
Men like him, successful and high–ranking, were always found in these kinds of gatherings. If she tagged along, she would just look like the controlling wife.Â
It was better not to interfere.Â
“Alright,” he said, not pressing further. Zachary actually wished that Jessica would go out with him more often to meet his friends.Â
TheÂ
year was ending soon, and according to Ginger, people had been lining up at the gate.Â
Though the news of their marriage was out, everyone assumed he was just making excuses to avoid the hassle, especially since they had not held a wedding banquet or invited anyone home.Â
Ginger almost wanted to plaster their marriage certificate on the front door.Â
Jessica snuck a glance at Zachary’s expression. Finding it impassive, she logged into her alternate account on her laptop and sent him her draft documents.Â
A notification sounded from his desktop.Â
Zachary opened Facebook, seeing that Madame Mayhem had sent him a file. He quickly accepted it.Â
“Any chance I could treat you to dinner?” he’d asked.Â

“No dinners with married men, thanks,” came the simple response.Â
Zachary’s brow furrowed as he replied, “Thank you for the drafts.”Â
“To invite me to dinner this late, aren’t you afraid your wife will find out?”Â
“My wife is sitting right in front of me,” he responded.Â
Jessica kept sketching, trying to stifle her laughter. She remembered Elsa suggesting that she used her alternate account to date him online.Â
Men, after all, could not resist temptation.Â
Jessica did not want to create unnecessary trouble for herself. Before she liked him too much, she would do well not to place too much hope on him..Â
Even if they were married, some distance was still necessary. She would give him a little of her heart and keep most of it for herself.Â
She would not make the same mistake twice.Â
Logging out of her alternate account, Jessica slumped against the couch and continued sketching.Â
Zachary stood beside the couch, watching her sleeping form.Â
The tablet screen had gone dark, and her stylus had fallen to the side, too.Â
Strands of golden hair spilled over the edge of the couch.Â
