Chapter 192 Are We Even That Close 

“Okay.” Nancy looked at Martha, feeling reluctant. Wendy might never realize that Martha was actually trying to help her. 

After leaving the hospital, Nancy went home and turned on her laptop to pull the hotel’s security footage. But the footage had already been wiped, leaving only the clip of Hanson and Hillary walking in together. 

As expected, they had premeditated this. 

Nancy called Hillary, who was in the middle of shooting a commercial. At the time, Hillary suddenly felt the staff members giving her odd looks. When she stepped off set, she saw Wendy’s video and almost gagged from disgust. 

It was at this very moment that Nancy’s call came in. Before she could say anything, Nancy said, ‘ Don’t worry. I believe you. The security footage of you at the hotel was tampered with. It only shows you and Hanson going in. I’ll be restoring it myself.” 

“Alright. Nancy, that cousin of yours is disgusting. And Hanson? Please. Even with my eyes closed, I 

wouldn’t look twice at him!” 

“I know. Part of why she did this is because of me. She wants Lidell Group for herself,” Nancy said calmly. After reassuring Hillary, she got to work restoring the video. 

In just two days, Hillary’s drama series was overtaken by Natalie’s and dropped to second place. Online, the attacks against Hillary showed no signs of slowing. 

The city seized the opportunity and invited Wendy, Hillary, and Hanson to its annual award night just as the scandal was at its peak. As expected, the netizens’ anticipation skyrocketed. 

Everyone wondered if Hillary would dare show up. 

 

She responded publicly, saying she’d be there—and of course, that sent Wendy’s fans into a frenzy. 

“A homewrecker dares to show up in public? Is this a provocation?” 

“Who’s camping outside the event with me? If I see Hillary, I won’t let her off!” 

“She should be hiding, not strutting around like this.” 

Finally, the award night arrived. 

Many big-name celebrities, influencers, and top business figures were invited. While the celebrities had to make their way down the red carpet, the industry leaders slipped straight inside. 

Nancy and Gideon entered the main hall directly. 

 

“Skylar’s here, too.” Nancy was surprised as she spotted him not far away. 

When Skylar saw them, he came over to greet them. “Nancy! Gideon!” 

“Hello, Mr. Gibson.” Nancy nodded in greeting. “I didn’t expect you to be here.” 

Skylar smirked. “With so many beautiful women here, how could I miss it?” 

He was still as carefree and flamboyant as ever. But to Nancy, he seemed distracted. It was as if he were plotting something. 

As they chatted, someone’s intense gaze landed on them. 

Natalie had arrived, too. 

When she saw Nancy, she froze. Nancy had been kicked out of the Moore household. How could she possibly be at the award night? 

Her eyes fell on the people beside her. She didn’t recognize Gideon, but she knew Skylar. Skylar was publicly known as Hillary’s “brother”, and they sometimes had dinner together. 

“Natalie, why are you staring in that direction? Do you know Mr. Gibson?” one of the screenwriters 

beside her asked. 

“I sure do,” Natalie said. 

“Oh my God! Natalie, that’s incredible! You even know Mr. Gibson! With connections like that, you’ll never have to worry about funding your projects.” The screenwriters around her gushed with envy. 

Natalie smiled faintly and walked toward them. She extended her hand. “Mr. Gibson, it’s been a long 

time.’ 

Skylar glanced at her, a cold smirk tugging at his lips. “Are we even that close?” 

His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried just enough for the nearby screenwriters to hear. 

Natalie’s smile stiffened on her face, disbelief flickering in her eyes. 

But Skylar simply ignored her and went back to chatting with Nancy. 

Nancy acted as if Natalie wasn’t even there. Their conversation flowed easily, while Natalie stood like an invisible shadow. The humiliation drained the color from her face. For a moment, it felt just like 

high school again. 

Back then, her family had been poor, and her elite private school was full of wealthy kids. She had tried to make friends, but no one had wanted anything to do with her.
