Chapter 119Â
Valerie hadn’t expected him to suddenly turn so serious. “If it’s not true, that’s fine. There’s no need to get so worked up.”Â
Lucius said, “Valerie, have you ever thought about our future?”Â
“Do you mean our divorce?”Â
Lucius shook his head. “No, our future.”Â
Valerie shrugged. “Never.”Â
Lucius pressed, “Think about it now.”Â
Valerie pretended to give it some serious thought.Â
After a moment, she said something completely unexpected, “After giving it some thought,Â
think we should have a child.”Â
Lucius immediately scooped her up in his arms. “Let’s go. We’ll make one right now.’Â
Valerie instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck as she was lifted into the air. “Wait, my late-night snack isn’t even in my mouth yet!”Â
Lucius replied smoothly, “I’ll eat with you after we have a baby.”Â
When Hannah came out of the kitchen carrying the meal, she saw Lucius walking up the stairsÂ
to the third floor with Valerie in his arms.Â
The sight stabbed at her eyes, and her jealousy intensified to a maddening degree.Â
Why her? Why was it Valerie, and not her?Â
They were both women from the countryside. She couldn’t accept that the aloof Lucius had fallen for someone like that.Â
Did he really think the housekeepers were all fools?Â
Did he think he could silence the gossip with some nonsense about a “distant relative”?Â
Hannah had long suspected that Valerie wasn’t related to the White family at all.Â
She was probably just a secret lover who couldn’t be shown to the public.Â
She could tolerate a woman like Sonia, someone with a proper background, as Lucius’ girlfriend.Â
But to have someone like Valerie, who was from the same social class as Hannah, be pampered under his roof? That was unbearable.Â
Unfortunately, no one knew what was going through Hannah’s mind.Â
Meanwhile, in the third-floor bedroom, Lucius’ thoughts were entirely consumed by the idea of devouring the little minx in his arms.Â
He sniffed the air. “Why does it smell so awful?”Â
Valerie laughed in his arms. “After falling into the sea, I’ve been too busy to even change myÂ
clothes.”Â
Lucius frowned. “You haven’t showered in three days despite the heat?”Â
She deliberately leaned closer to him. “Smell carefully. Are you sure it’s me?”Â
Lucius buried his face in her neck and inhaled deeply, only for the scent of seawater mixed with sweat to hit him all at once. “You’re disgusting!”Â
Valerie laughed mischievously. “So, do you still have the appetite despite the stench, Mr. White?”Â
Lucius tossed her down by the bathroom door and gave her a teasing slap on the hip. Then, he said in a low, flirtatious growl, “Take a shower first. I’ve never been an impatient man.”Â
When he closed the bathroom door behind her, he couldn’t keep himself from smiling.Â
While Valerie was showering, Lucius got a call from Keane, informing him that someone had spotted Valerie causing a scene at a seafood restaurant.Â
Keane even sent the surveillance footage to Lucius’ private inbox.Â
He opened the video in his study and watched as Valerie and Lucinda pulled a clever prank on Sheryl and Gareth.Â
It was quite a show, and the ending was thoroughly satisfying.Â
But what surprised him was the fact that Lucinda, who had an ambiguous relationship with Darrell, was actually friends with Valerie.Â
If they’d known each other all along, maybe Valerie’s relationship with Darrell wasn’t as intimate as he had assumed.Â
Why did that thought suddenly make him feel so much better?Â
When he returned to the bedroom, he found Valerie hugging a pillow, already fast asleep.Â
Her face was so peaceful that Lucius couldn’t bring himself to wake her.Â
