Chapter 114Â
A few silver needles and a single pill were all it took for Valerie to bring a dying man back toÂ
life?Â
What kind of technique could be that powerful?Â
What kind of medicine could save someone’s life in just one minute?Â
Owen was utterly dumbfounded. Not only was Darrell alive, but he had even spoken a momentÂ
ago.Â
Only Valerie remained perfectly calm. She kindly handed over a tissue and said, “Someone broke into your room during your IV infusion and poisoned you.”Â
At that moment, Lucinda pushed open the door. “Darrell, how are you feeling?”Â
Darrell’s face was still pale, and he was utterly drained of strength. “I’m sorry, Lucinda, for making you worry.”Â
Valerie shot the doctors a look. “Hook him back upÂ
to yourÂ
monitors.”Â
Rowan was the first to recover from the shock. He immediately ordered the team to reconnectÂ
the instruments.Â
He didn’t buy this miracle. A patient whose blood pressure and oxygen levels had dropped so catastrophically couldn’t possibly recover in mere minutes.Â
It had to be just a last flicker of life before death.Â
But the results proved him wrong.Â
Once the monitors came back online, not only did the blood pressure rise, but the oxygenÂ
levels were steadily improving as well.Â
Even his heart rate, which had dropped to 40, climbed to 72 and was still increasing.Â
Rowan finally admitted defeat. “Miss, would you mind sharing what you did for the emergency treatment?”Â
Valerie replied coolly, “I do mind.”Â
Rowan fell silent. He had no idea how to respond to that.Â
Half an hour later, all of Darrell’s vital signs had returned to normal. He had completely escaped death’s door.Â
Once the doctors were dismissed, Lucinda leaned close to Owen and whispered, “Don’t let word of this spread. Valerie hates unnecessary trouble.”Â
Owen immediately understood. “Don’t worry. I’ll remind those doctors and make sure none ofÂ
them talk.”Â
After witnessing Valerie drag Darrell back from the brink, Owen couldn’t help but feel a kind of awe toward her.Â
Then, he remembered something and said, “I’ll have someone delete the surveillance footage from the ER as well.”Â
Valerie removed her mask and said lightly, “No need. The cameras stopped working the moment I walked in.”Â
Owen didn’t know how to respond to that. He felt like he’d just missed something important again.Â
Lucinda still looked worried. “Valerie, will the poisoning leave any aftereffects?”Â
Valerie nodded slightly. “I used a fast-acting antidote. His life is safe, but he needs time to recover. Make sure you keep his diet light for one week-keep it mostly to liquids. After that, he can be discharged.”Â
Darrell said sincerely, “Ms. Collins, I won’t forget this debt.”Â
Valerie grinned. “Didn’t I say on the ship that I owed you one? Now, we’re even.”Â
Owen caught the hint. “Wait, Valerie, you were the one who went on the cruise with Darrell?”Â
He had assumed that it was Lucinda.Â
Valerie didn’t bother hiding it. “I told you that I was interested in that semi-finished product.”Â
Owen’s eyes lit up. “Did you manage to get it?”Â
She nodded. “Of course.”Â
Owen said, “Let’s test it together sometime. I’ll cover half your expenses.”Â
Valerie shot him down mercilessly. “I don’t like sharing.”Â
Owen wasn’t even surprised by that response.Â
Before she left, Valerie turned to Darrell. “Do you have any guesses on who might’ve poisoned you?”Â
