Sharon had thought Miles might have repented, might want to do things properly. She hadn’t expected him to be so shameless.Â
Miles glanced at her and noticed a flush creeping up her cheek. The smile he’d been forcing fell away; the drug was taking hold. He dropped the pretense altogether and grinned with something ugly in it.Â
“Sharon,” he said, voice low, “you’re naturally beautiful–one look and a man’s undone. Ever since I last sawÂ
you lose your senses.” you, I’ve not been able to forget… Don’t worry, beautiful, I’ll makeÂ
Sharon snapped, flinging the contract straight into his face. She pushed to her feet, but an odd, searing heat spread through her limbs.Â
Dizziness spiraled. It was obvious now: she’d been drugged.Â
How-? She hadn’t eaten anything since entering the room. Her skin prickled with alarm.Â
This wasn’t the time to panic. She fumbled for her phone and tried to call out for help, but before she could complete the number, Miles snatched the phone and slammed it to the floor.Â
“Sharon, stop struggling. You’re not walking out of this room.” His voice carried the casual cruelty of a man with a plan.Â
Her eyes flashed like a blade. “Touch me and I’ll kill you,” she hissed through clenched teeth.Â
He laughed, hollow and leering. “Kill me? Save your strength–make it worth my time in bed.”Â
He didn’t take her threat seriously at all.Â
Sharon felt her chest tighten as Miles’s words slid into something more vile. “You are Kalen Group’s heiress- most men wouldn’t dare… but afterward, of course, I could take responsibility. I could personally come to your home and propose marriage. Wouldn’t that make everything suitable and proper?”Â
Rage bubbled hot in her throat. “Propose? You?” she spat.Â
He leaned in, unabashed. “Everyone’s talking about you and your pretty little bodyguard now. A scandal like that -who would want you? Your father and brothers would be more inclined to accept a proper match like me than some kept man. I’d be a better husband.” He studied her as if she were merchandise.Â
She closed her eyes briefly and, with a steadiness that surprised even her, asked, “How did you do this to me?”Â
He shrugged, no longer trying to hide anything. “I brought a drug. It’s colorless and tasteless. If you inhale it, you’ll be affected. It takes five minutes to kick in.”Â
Contracts for companies like the Kalen Group’s ran dozens of pages. She’d been poring over clauses, checking for hidden changes–that had cost her precious minutes. Now everything clicked into place.Â
Sharon drew a slow, controlled breath. “Who hired you? What did they pay you? I’ll give you ten times that.”Â
Miles smiled with infuriating complacency. “Sharon, you’re worth a fortune. If I marry you, all have all the benefits in the world. Don’t waste your time. Nobody’s coming to save you. This drug hits hard. In a little while—Â
1/3Â
well, you’ll be the one throwing yourself at me.‘Â

He looked to his secretary. The woman produced a tiny camera. “Ready, Miles,” she said.Â
Sharon’s breath hitched. If he had a recording, he could blackmail her–force her into marriage or into silence.Â
If she resisted and dragged him down with her, the footage would leak and her life would be ruined. Either way, she could lose everything: her name, her future, her dignity.Â
