“You may not care about yourself,” Rick said, “but you should at least think about the employees who work under you.‘ 

The day she signed the contract with Miles, Sharon hadn’t suffered much of a loss in the end. Enzo had also mentioned that this deal was indeed crucial to the company. 

With that in mind, Sharon didn’t refuse again. “Thank you, Rick.” 

Rick nodded. “Miles said he wants to apologize to you in person. He’s waiting next door. I’ll take you there.” 

Next door, Miles had already been waiting for quite some time. The moment he saw her enter, he stood up from 

the sofa. 

“Sharon, you’re here.” He extended his hand, speaking with a tone of practiced sincerity. “I was out of line last time–my judgment was clouded. I was far too rude to you, and I hope you’ll be magnanimous enough to forgive my lapse.” 

Sharon glanced at his outstretched hand but made no move to shake it. 

Noticing her reaction, Miles’s expression didn’t falter. He simply withdrew his hand, maintaining his composed 

smile. 

Aside from him, there was also a capable–looking female secretary standing by. 

Rick turned toward Miles. “Show Sharon the revised contract.” 

Miles gave the secretary a look. “Bring it over. Let Sharon review it–see if there’s anything she’s not satisfied with.” 

The secretary stepped forward, respectful and efficient. “Ms. McKinzie, please have a look.” 

Taking the document, Sharon sat down on the sofa and began reading through it line by line with focused precision. She needed to make sure Miles hadn’t secretly altered any clauses. 

Contracts like this were notoriously long; it was impossible to finish reading in a short time. 

Rick didn’t seem to mind the wait. He sat quietly, sipping his tea in silence. 

Just then, his phone rang. 

A panicked voice burst through the line. 

“Sir, something’s wrong! There’s been an incident at the banquet!” 

Rick’s expression darkened. “What happened?” 

“There’s a leak… indecent photos, sir. You’d better come take a look! The whole venue’s in chaos!” 

Rick rose abruptly. “I understand.” 

After hanging up, he turned to Sharon. 

“Sharon, there’s been a bit of trouble at the banquet. I need to go handle it. Keep reviewing the contract. I’ll come back in a moment.” 

Without looking up from the papers, Sharon responded distractedly, “Alright.” 

Rick glanced at Miles. “If there’s anything that requires discussion, we’ll decide once I return.” 

Miles immediately nodded, smiling. “Of course. Don’t worry.” 

Once Rick left, Miles’s expression shifted. He cast a subtle look toward Sharon, who was still engrossed in the contract, then exchanged a brief glance with his secretary. 

The woman looked puzzled. 

Their people hadn’t even arrived yet–why had Rick left so soon? 

Still, no matter the reason, Rick was gone now. 

The secretary gave Miles a discreet signal: everything was in place. 

A slow, malicious smile curved at the corner of his lips. This time, Sharon wouldn’t be able to escape. 

As Sharon continued to scan the document, her brows drew together slightly. Something in the terms didn’t seem right. 

“Miles,” she said coolly, “this clause doesn’t match the original agreement.” 

Feigning surprise, Miles leaned in. “Oh? Which one? Let me see. 

Sharon handed him the contract, pointing to the paragraph in question. 

“This one.” 

Miles deliberately leaned closer–so close that his breath fanned across her face. 

Sharon’s eyes hardened, her tone turning cold. 

“Miles, what exactly do you think you’re doing?”
