Thomas opened his mouth to speak again, but Sharon’s voice cut in first. 

“Thomas, stay here and protect Theo. I don’t feel safe leaving him with anyone else.” 

If she ever had to choose between her own safety and her son’s, 

she would rather be the one in danger. 

Thomas knew that too well. So he could only stand there, watching as Sharon followed Rick away. 

Julliard, seeing that Thomas had finally run out of excuses to follow her, let a faint smile curl at his lips. 

“You stay here and look after Theo,” he said casually. “I’ll go check on Sharon.‘ 

Then, after a deliberate pause, he added, “You know, you’re not the only one capable of protecting her.” 

Thomas’s gaze turned cold. “You’re doing this on purpose.‘ 

He didn’t need to elaborate–both of them knew exactly what he meant.

Julliard would 

Julliard had brought Theo down precisely to keep him occupied. Even if Rick hadn’t shown have found another excuse to separate him from Sharon. He was looking for a chance to be alone with her. 

Julliard feigned confusion. “I’m not sure what you mean.” 

Thomas didn’t bother wasting any more words. He took Theo’s hand and said, “Theo, let’s go find your father.” 

He needed to get the boy somewhere safe before he could return to Sharon. 

If anything happened to Theo, Sharon would never forgive him. 

Julliard didn’t linger either–he turned and strode off in the direction Sharon had gone.

In an unremarkable corner of the grand hall, a figure dressed like a cleaner lurked in the shadows, glancing around furtively. 

A mask and a cap concealed most of her face, but the eyes visible beneath them gleamed with venomous hate. 

It was Kelly. 

She had seen many familiar faces at Victoria’s birthday banquet–Sharon, Carter, Johanna, and Thomas. 

Just the sight of Sharon and Johanna made her blood boil. 

But with Thomas constantly at Sharon’s side, she hadn’t dared to act. For now, she had redirected her malice- toward Johanna instead. 

If she could get Thomas on her side, killing Sharon would be effortless. So why not make Thomas completely lose faith in Johanna first? 

Everything was already in place. 

A faint, sinister smile curved her lips. It wouldn’t be long before she reclaimed everything that had once belonged to her. 

Sharon followed Rick into a private lounge. 

“Rick, what was so important you needed to speak to me alone?” 

Rick’s tone was calm. “I’ve finished investigating what happened with Miles. It’s true. He was in the wrong. He’s admitted that he drank too much that night and got carried away. He’s willing to apologize to you in person. 

“As for the contract, he’s agreed to sign it again and to give up an additional two percent as compensation. He hopes we can put this matter behind us and keep peace between our families. 

“Sharon, does that outcome satisfy you?” 

Sharon frowned slightly. “Are you sure that’s really what he said?” 

Could Miles truly have that much self–awareness? 

Rick chuckled. “Why would I lie to you about something like this? Sharon, I told you before–I’d make sure you got justice, and I meant it.” 

He paused, his tone softening into that of a patient elder brother. 

“You’ve only just taken over the company. This is your time to prove yourself. I looked into that collaboration— honestly, it’s a good deal for your firm.” 

He continued in that same persuasive, reasonable way, as if explaining the ways of the world to someone younger and less seasoned. 

“The world isn’t all black and white. If we cut off cooperation over a small misunderstanding, the company 

would be the one to suffer the loss.”
