Chapter 1086 

Carter’s brows drew together–a subtle crease that always surfaced before his patience ran thin. 

Sensing it, Sharon calmly prepared to look away. 

But before she could, as though feeling her gaze, Carter turned sharply–and his eyes found her instantly. 

The moment he saw her, a flicker of light ignited in his dark pupils. Then, without hesitation, he abandoned Samantha mid–conversation and strode toward Sharon. 

Samantha had been speaking animatedly, her voice soft and lilting–until she realized the man before her had walked off without so much as a word. 

Her smile froze. 

Following his line of sight, she caught sight of Sharon standing not far away. A chill glimmer crossed her eyes. 

Upstairs, in one of the guest rooms, Theo was admiring the gift Julliard had brought him. His small fingers traced its surface with delight, and his face broke into a bright, innocent smile. 

“Thank you, Julliard! I really like it!” 

Julliard chuckled, gently ruffling the boy’s hair as he casually pried for information. 

“Have you been staying at the Kalen estate lately?” 

Theo nodded earnestly. “Yes! Grandpa takes me around the gardens every day.” 

“And your mom?” Julliard asked. 

“When Mom’s not busy, she cooks for me herself,” Theo said proudly. “But when she’s working, I don’t see her for a few days.” 

A faint shadow crossed Julliard’s eyes. “And what about Thomas? Does he spend more time with you… or with your mom?” 

“Mostly with Mom,” Theo replied matter–of–factly. “Thomas says it’s different here than back home–there are more bad people around. He has to stay with Mom to protect her.” 

Julliard continued to probe skillfully, asking casual questions about how Sharon and Thomas got along. 

The more he heard, the darker his expression grew. 

Ever since that moment earlier–when Thomas had caught Sharon in his arms–Julliard had found Thomas 

intolerable to look at. 

But what infuriated him most was how naturally Sharon had accepted Thomas’s insistence on accompanying her to the dressing room. She hadn’t objected at all. (1) 

That kind of familiarity had long since crossed the line between employer and bodyguard. 

A sharp sense of unease prickled in Julliard’s chest. 

Thomas was using his role to stay close to Sharon–earning her trust, worming his way into her daily life, and, little by little, into her heart. 

And Sharon… already trusted him far too much. 

If it went on like this, would she fall for him next? 

He couldn’t deny it–Thomas’s looks alone were a dangerous advantage. 

Julliard had originally planned to deal with Jamie first, then turn his attention to Thomas. But now, it was clear he couldn’t afford to wait. 1 

His eyes dropped to Theo. “Theo, your dad’s here tonight too. Don’t you want to go see your mom and dad together?” 

Theo hesitated. “But Thomas said there are too many people downstairs. It’s not safe. He told me to stay here until the party’s over, then Mom and Dad will come get me.” 

A flicker of cold malice flashed through Julliard’s gaze. 

Thomas again. 

So that was it he didn’t want Theo around, afraid the child would disrupt his time alone with Sharon. 1 

After all, when Theo was with her, all her attention went to her son. 

Or perhaps Thomas simply preferred to keep them apart and have her to himself. 

A faint, knowing smile touched Julliard’s lips. 

“You know,” he said lightly, “I heard Xavier brought his son, Matty, to Marcentine too. They’ll be staying here for quite a while.” 

He paused, watching Theo’s expression. 

“Your mom mentioned earlier that once you leave Marcentine, she might invite Matty to stay for a bit. And soon, you and your dad will be heading home, won’t you? When that happens, you might not get to see your mom for a long, long time.”
