Chapter 170 Nancy and Yelena Are FriendsÂ
As soon as Yelena finished speaking, everyone was left stunned.Â
What was going on? Were Yelena and Raine enemies?Â
Raine also stood frozen, staring at Yelena in disbelief. “Ms. Hawthorne, is there a misunderstandingÂ
between us?”Â
“No,” Yelena said flatly. “I came here today to throw a birthday banquet for my good friend.”Â
At these words, everyone immediately became curious.Â
“Ms. Hawthorne has a good friend here?”Â
“Wow! How fortunate it is for that person to be Ms. Hawthorne’s friend!”Â
“Who is this good friend of hers, really?”Â
Everyone was dying to know.Â
That was when it clicked for Fergus. He looked at Raine with excitement. “Could it be that Ms. Hawthorne wants to make it up to you by throwing another birthday banquet?”Â
Still in a daze, Raine snapped back to reality, thinking it made perfect sense. Her eyes lit up as she looked at Yelena. This would explain why Yelena had suddenly come to Riversdale.Â
Maybe she had already heard of her, and wanting to befriend her, had specifically come to throw her a birthday banquet.Â
Her face flushed with excitement. “Ms. Hawthorne, you’re way too thoughtful.”Â
Yelena had dealt with plenty of drama in her time, but even she was stunned by how shameless Raine and her family were. She’d made her intentions perfectly clear, yet they still thought she was here for Raine.Â
Regina also smiled cheerfully. “Raine has always been kind and outstanding. It would be great for her to be friends with you, Ms. Hawthorne. Ms. Hawthorne, let me have someone bring out the cake for you.”Â
“It’s fine,” Yelena immediately replied.Â
Regina was puzzled, then belatedly realized something. “Oh, of course, you must have already prepared a cake.”Â
Yelena’s mouth twitched, crushing their delusions. “I’m not here to celebrate Raine’s birthday.”Â
The room fell silent again.Â

2/3Â
She was not here for Raine’s birthday? Then whose birthday had she come to celebrate?Â
The Lidells‘ collective gazes instinctively fell on Nancy, who shared the same birthday as Raine.Â
Could it be that Yelena was here to celebrate her birthday instead?Â
This thought barely formed in their minds before it was quickly suppressed.Â
How could that be? How could Nancy possibly know Yelena?Â
“Nancy.” Yelena turned to Nancy, her expression softening considerably. “It’s your turn to cut the cake.”Â
Nancy stood up gracefully, took Yelena’s hand, and walked to the center of the banquet hall. A massive cake–at least 12 layers tall–was rolled in as if on cue. Every tier was designed with its ownÂ
theme and finished with perfect detail.Â
“My God! This cake is gorgeous! It must be worth at least a million!”Â
“A million? Hah! This cake was made by a top–tier master. It’s probably worth two million!‘Â
Everyone couldn’t help but gasp. Two million for just one cake? The Hawthorne family was unbelievably rich!Â
As Nancy picked up the knife to cut the cake, everyone felt even more envious, jealous, and resentful.Â
“So Yelena’s friend is Nancy!”Â
“I’m so jealous of Nancy!”Â
“I think Nancy is actually quite impressive, too. She just doesn’t have a background comparable to that of the Hawthorne family!”Â
While the onlooking guests were merely envious, the Lidell family members felt as if their hearts were being devoured by ants.Â
They stared fixedly at Nancy with burning eyes.Â
When did Nancy get to know Yelena?Â
Andrew’s face fell as he turned to glare coldly at Regina. “You foolish woman, didn’t I tell you to get close to Nancy? Did you have no idea that she has such an influential friend?”Â
That was someone from the Hawthorne family, one of the five top families in Boraska!Â
If they could have connections like that, the Lidell family wouldn’t have to stay on the fringes of the five wealthiest families in Riversdale. Besides, Lidell Group had been on a downward spiral and was about to fall out of the picture entirely.Â
Regina bit her lower lip, and her face drained of color as she said in a trembling voice, “It’sÂ
Â
impossible. How could this be?”Â
