Chapter 29 You’re Blind

Gabriel shoved Emily hard onto the couch

The impact of the fall made her head spin and jolted her awake. She lifted her head, only to look into

his blazing eyes

He sneered. Amelia is in the ER, so what gives you the nerves to be here sleeping?”

Emily stared at him and almost laughed in pure absurdity. She fell on her own.”

On her own?”

Gabriel laughed in anger. He leaned down, braced his hands on the couch, and trapped her beneath

him

Are you determined to push her to death and believe that I’d finally look at you if she’s gone? Keep

dreaming.”

His words flipped a switch inside her and ignited all the emotions she’d been suppressing. Her head snapped up, and she stared straight into his eyes

Does that mean other patientslives don’t matter if Amelia’s hurt? I came to fetch the medical kit for a patient with acute heart failure, while your precious Amelia is perfectly fine and puts on amazing performances. She never needed that medical kit!”

Her eyes shone with glaring mockery. Only a blind man like you can’t tell, Gabriel.”

The air around them seemed to freeze, and the pressure around Gabriel seemed to plunge sharply. He gripped her throat in one hand, tightening his fingers as if he could strangle her into silence

Say that again!”

Suffocation overwhelmed Emily. Her face flushed red from the lack of oxygen, but her eyes were terrifyingly clear. There was no fear and only a deadly stillness

Looking at the face she’d loved for two years, she uttered word by word, I saidyou’re blind.Gabriel’s grip tightened further, and Emily’s lips curled up in a faint, scornful smile as she sneered.Does only Amelia’s life matter to you? Are the rest of us no better than ants?”

Upon seeing a tear slide unexpectedly from the corner of her eye, his chest tightened, and his hand instinctively loosened its grip on her. The sight of her pale face softened his tone

You could have explained to her and told her that the medicine was to save a life. Why did you have to hurt her?”

Emily coughed and laughed a sound bleaker than crying. She looked up and locked her eyes with his

His patience instantly snapped. I saw it with my own eyes that she fell right in front of you! How is that not proof?”

The light in her eyes completely dimmed. Did you see me push her?”

That question left Gabriel speechless. He’d seen Amelia fall, but he hadn’t seen Emily reaching out to

shove Amelia

For a moment, the room plunged into a dead silence before Emily’s phone rang sharply from her pocket, shattering the suffocating stalemate

When she took it out and answered it, a volunteer’s anxious voice erupted over the line. Dr. Sterling, we need help! The patient is severely bleeding, his blood pressure is dropping, and he’s gone into

shock

You’re the only one who can operate. Please come now!”

Emily’s face drained of color. After hanging up, she grabbed her coat and turned around to bolt out the door when Gabriel instinctively moved to block her way

Move!she shouted

Her last thread of composure snapped, and her eyes were red from fury. Can’t you tell what’s important, Gabriel? A life is waiting for me

If you want to settle scores for Amelia, I’ll face you all you want when I’m done saving the patient!”

She tried to push past him, but he caught her wrist and stared at her breaking apart before him. Finally, he pressed his lips together and said, I’ll take you there.”

When they arrived, Emily leaped from the car and rushed straight into the operating room

Four hours later, the doors opened again. She walked out, dragging her exhausted body, and removing her mask revealed a face drained of all color

A middleaged manthe patient’s family memberrushed forward. Doctor! HHow’s my son?”

Emily took a deep breath and replied in a hoarse but steady voice, The surgery was a success. He’s

safe now.”

The man was instantly overwhelmed with gratitude. Thank you so much, doctor!”

He turned and yelled to the relatives who’d gathered, He’s fine now! He’s alive! Dr. Sterling saved Albert!”

Drained from the lack of rest, Emily’s nerves finally relaxed. Her knees buckled, and she nearly

Just then, a cold gaze cut through the crowd and fell on Emily. She looked up to see Gabriel standing at the far end of the hallway, slowly guiding Amelia along

His expression was deep and complex, tinged with a trace of scrutiny

Sensing the shift in him, Amelia quickly said, My head’s spinning, Gabe. I feel so tired all over. Do you think Dr. Sterling pushing me down the stairs might have left some lasting damage?”

Gabriel withdrew his gaze, and it shifted back to Amelia’s pale face. Guilt for her washed over him, drowning out the ripples Emily had stirred in him moments earlier

When they stopped in front of Emily, Amelia lifted her chin and smiled weakly. Congratulations on the successful surgery, Dr. Sterling. I had no idea you had such remarkable skills.”

She pressed a hand to her chest and frowned slightly. StillI’m weak. I always feel short of breath and panicky

You have such incredible medical skills, Dr. Sterling. If you’re freedo you mind nursing me back to health?”

Emily was slightly surprised. Did that mean that Amelia wasn’t pregnant and didn’t have a miscarriage

Status: Ongoing

🌙 Part 1 — The Night of Exhaustion

It was 2 a.m. when Emily Sterling lay curled up on the bed, her body trembling from exhaustion. Her husband, Gabriel Holton, had just returned from a business trip after several days, and all his pent-up desire had exploded into wild intensity.
The floor was littered with used condoms — eight in total. Emily’s throat was sore from crying out, her limbs heavy like stone. When she whispered “Water,” Gabriel wordlessly helped her sit up and brought a glass to her lips.

💔 Part 2 — Beauty Beside a Stranger

Under the warm light, Emily gazed at the man she had married two years ago. Gabriel’s sharp, striking features glowed with confidence and power — the kind of man women fell for instantly. But to Emily, he was a mystery, both familiar and unreachable.
In that quiet moment, a thought bloomed in her heart: maybe it was time for them to have a baby — a child with both their blood. Maybe a baby could bring warmth to their cold marriage.

❄️ Part 3 — The Shattered Dream

Her daydream shattered when Gabriel’s deep, indifferent voice broke the silence.
“Remember to take your pills tomorrow.”
Emily froze, then forced a bitter smile. “Even with condoms, you’re still not reassured?”
Gabriel’s lips curled in mockery. “What do you think?”
His cold words stabbed through her chest, crushing what little hope remained. The tension hung heavy between them, until a sudden phone ringtone pierced the air.

📱 Part 4 — The Name That Killed the Silence

Emily glanced at the glowing phone screen — the name Amelia appeared.
Amelia Waverly. The woman everyone knew as Gabriel’s childhood sweetheart. They had grown up together, studied together, and when she returned from abroad, Gabriel personally appointed her as his secretary. Their connection was deep, their bond undeniable. Everyone whispered that Amelia was the true woman in Gabriel’s heart — not his wife.

Part 5 — A Call That Broke Her Heart

Gabriel picked up the call immediately. Amelia’s soft voice floated clearly through the quiet room:
“Gabe, I think I’m running a slight fever. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Gabriel’s voice softened, almost tender. “Sure. Rest for now. I’ll be there shortly.”
He hung up, his expression tight with concern. Emily’s fingers trembled under the blanket as she watched him hurry to dress. A wave of pain hit her.

🌧️ Part 6 — The Memory That Burned

Her mind flashed back to last year — when she had gone on a medical mission to the countryside. A disaster struck, and terrified, she had called Gabriel for help.
But instead of comforting her, he had mocked her for “overreacting,” hanging up coldly. That night, she had nearly died in fear — and he hadn’t cared.
Now, Amelia had a mild fever, and Gabriel was willing to rush out in the middle of the night. For Emily, it was clear: her husband had never loved her.

🕯️ Part 7 — The Jealous Wife

Driven by anger and pain, Emily threw off the blanket, ran to the door, and blocked Gabriel’s path. “It’s so late. Do you really have to go?”
Gabriel looked down at her, his eyes flat, unreadable. “You’re jealous?”
Emily bit her lip and nodded. “As your wife, shouldn’t I be?”
He smirked cruelly. “You’re not worthy of being jealous of Amelia.”
His words sliced through her soul. Without another glance, he turned the doorknob and walked out, slamming the door into her shoulder as he left.

🌪️ Part 8 — Left Behind in Silence

Emily stumbled backward and collapsed to the floor. The slam echoed like thunder in her mind. Moments later, she heard the roar of his car engine fading into the distance.
The room was now painfully quiet. The sheets still smelled of him, but the warmth was gone. She wrapped her arms around her knees, trembling, tears streaming endlessly.
For the first time, she admitted the truth — she had fallen into an abyss of her own making.

💧 Part 9 — A Fool’s Love

Emily realized she had always known this marriage was hollow. She had tried to fill it with love, patience, and faith, but Gabriel had only ever kept one woman in his heart — Amelia.
She was nothing but a placeholder, a name on a marriage certificate, a woman to share his bed but not his heart.
Still, she couldn’t stop the ache. Even in pain, she had loved him too deeply, hoping he might one day look at her with tenderness. That hope now turned to ashes.

🔥 Part 10 — The Final Blow

Just as her tears began to dry, her phone rang again.
It was her best friend, Mallory Prescott.
“Mills! Guess who I just saw — your husband! He’s got a woman in his arms, and they look real close. That bastard! Couldn’t he have gone to any other hospital? He came to yours! Is he trying to disgust you on purpose?”
Emily’s hand trembled as she listened. Her vision blurred with tears, not from surprise — but confirmation. Everything she had feared was real.
Gabriel hadn’t just left her alone; he had humiliated her completely.

That night, Emily Sterling realized it was truly time to leave — not just the house, but the man who had never once looked back.
