Amelia followed Emily’s gaze and laughed. “Oh, that medical kit? Gabe left it here for me because I’m frail, so it’s mine now.”
Emily’s gaze turned cold. “That medical kit is my personal property, Amelia. You took it without my permission, so I could report you for theft.”
“Theft? You’re overreacting,” Amelia said, covering her mouth with a light laugh. “It’s just a
medical kit, and Gabe would never be upset with me over something so small. Besides, I don’t feel well, so something might happen to me.”
Emily clenched her fist tight. The patient was still waiting, so she didn’t have time to waste here.
Striding forward, she snatched the medical kit from the couch and turned to leave.
A medical kit wasn’t worth a fight. Amelia hadn’t planned to stop her until a message arrived from Gabriel saying he was almost there, and an idea sparked in her mind.
As she passed Emily, she smiled at the latter in open provocation.
Amelia swiftly slipped something from her bag under her clothes, then suddenly let out a sharp cry and tumbled down the stairs.
Emily was utterly stunned. What the hell was Amelia doing?
Before she could react, a tall figure appeared at the door. Gabriel walked in just in time to witness the scene and immediately glared at Emily in fury.
“You’re courting death, Emily!” he snarled.
Amelia looked down at herself and began to sob. “Blood… I’m bleeding…”
She looked up at him with wide, desperate eyes as beads of tears rolled down her cheeks. “Am I going to die, Gabe? Will I never see you again?”
As she wept and looked utterly innocent, she turned her gaze upward to the stairs, where Emily stood. “What did I do wrong, Dr. Sterling? Why do you hate me so much that you’d try to take my
life?
Emily finally snapped out of the shock and denied, “I didn’t push her.”
But Gabriel didn’t even ask. He turned to the bodyguards behind him and gave the order. “Lock her up.”
Emily immediately panicked. “You can’t do this! A patient is waiting for the medicine in the medical kit, and you’re risking a human’s life!”

Of course, he had no idea about the shortage at the pharmacy and mocked, “So you’re trying to say that you have to save lives, huh? What makes you think the hospital can’t function without you and that people will die if you’re not there?”
Emily was about to explain when the bodyguards shoved her into Amelia’s room and locked the door.
Despair washed over her as she closed her eyes, and a sharp pain throbbed in her chest. He didn’t trust her or believe a single word she said.
But what about the patient? A life was at stake!
And what about the blood Amelia was losing? How could a fall down the stairs cause so much bleeding?
That was unless… A horrifying thought crept into Emily’s mind, and her fingertips turned cold.
Other than a pregnancy, Emily couldn’t think of a reason for such heavy bleeding.
It seemed that Amelia was carrying Gabriel’s child, and that was why he’d lost control.
Emily’s heart felt like it was being crushed by an invisible fist and broken into pieces until it hurt too much to breathe. It finally dawned on her that Amelia had used her baby with Gabriel to set up such a vicious trap, just to frame her.
Just then, an urgent voice called from downstairs. “Emily! Emily, are you in there?”
It was Mallory.
Emily jolted up and scrambled to the window to look down. “Mal!”
Mallory stood below, looking up with worry written all over her face. “I kept calling, but pick up, so I got so worried that I came over. What did they do to you?”
you didn’t
“They locked me in!”
Mallory’s temper instantly flared. “Damn it! Who the hell does Gabriel think he is to lock you up? Hold on; I’ll come up and break the door down!”
“Don’t!” Emily quickly called out to stop her and held up the medical kit. “Forget me for now! Take this back because the patient in bed three needs it to save his life!”
Mallory’s eyes reddened as she looked at the medical kit, then at Emily, who tossed it down from the third–floor window. She caught it tight.
“Gabriel’s a fucking jerk! Wait for me, Emily. I’ll save the patient and come right back.”
Cursing, Mallory turned around and sprinted toward the medical mission site.

The midnight air was freezing.
Emily curled in the corner by the window, shivering in her thin clothes. It wasn’t long before she
drifted off to sleep.
