Andrew hesitated. 

Regina said sharply, “Martha’s illness can only be treated with surgery by Dr. Gale. Her life depends on Raine. Do you think she wouldn’t hand over her shares under those circumstances? When that happens, the company will still be ours. That makes Nancy useless to us.” 

From the start, Andrew had wanted to hold the family dinner because Martha liked Nancy. But if Martha’s life was in Raine’s hands, then maybe the dinner wasn’t necessary after all. 

“You’re right. Raine, can you get Dr. Gale here?” Andrew asked. 

Raine smiled. “I should be able to.” 

With pressure from the Fullers, Benny would definitely come. 

“Good. If that’s the case, then there’s no need to hold the family dinner,” Andrew announced. 

A flicker of delight and malice flashed in Raine’s eyes. The Lidells were really that shallow. 

Not having to reveal Nancy’s identity was a plus. 

Regina’s happiness barely lasted two seconds before her sister–in–law called. A pang of unease hit her as she stepped outside to answer. “What’s wrong?” 

“You idiot! Do you want to see us destroyed before you’re satisfied?” her sister–in–law screamed. “It was bad enough that you offended Jasper and cost us our deal with the Lewis family. But you still didn’t learn your lesson and managed to cross him again. Now, the entire Lewis family has blacklisted us!” 

Regina’s heart skipped a beat. 

Her family’s business revolved around healthcare. If Jasper blacklisted them, it was as good as a death sentence. 

“Calm down. I’ll figure out what’s going on.” Regina hung up and dialed Jasper. “Mr. Lewis, may I ask what my family did to offend you? Why are you blacklisting us?” 

Jasper laughed humorlessly. “I’m sure you know why, Mrs. Lidell.” 

“I don’t. Maybe this is a misunderstanding?” she asked hurriedly. 

“A misunderstanding? Nancy already has a boyfriend, yet you tried to set her up with me. Were you trying to humiliate me on purpose?” Jasper roared. 

“She has a boyfriend?” Refina froze, then stammered, “I honestly didn’t know, Mr. Lewis, I’ll straighten this out with her. Please, just spare my family.” 

“And who’s going to spare me?” Jasper’s voice dropped. “Nancy’s boyfriend is Gideon. Because of her, I’ve been blacklisted by the Fullers themselves. Tell me–how am I supposed to survive now?” 

“W–What did you just say?” 

Just then, Regina’s phone glitched, cutting the call short. Jasper had no patience to repeat himself and simply hung up. 

Regina gripped her phone tightly as she paced in circles. She was about to lose her mind. Why would Nancy do something reckless to offend Jasper? Did she not care about anyone by herself? 

After clocking out of the office, Nancy stopped by the market to buy some groceries. She and Gideon had planned to cook dinner tonight.

She left the market and was texting Gideon with a smile on her face. In the next second, someone slammed into her, sending her bag flying. 

Vegetables were scattered across the ground. Nancy frowned and looked up. 

Regina was standing before her with a cold expression on her face. 

Nancy’s gaze hardened. “What do you think you’re doing?” 

“That’s my question for you,” Regina shot back, stepping closer. 

Nancy didn’t move. Her eyes were unyielding. The sheer force of her presence made Regine falter for a split second. 

But she quickly recovered and hissed, “Nancy, the family’s survival is your survival. You’re dragging us all down by chasing your own selfish desires. Do you even have a conscience?” 

“And how exactly have I harmed you now?” Nancy asked flatly. 

“You could’ve just made an excuse if you didn’t want to meet Jasper. But you had to tell him you already had a boyfriend? He’s furious and striking back at your grandmother!” Regina’s words came through gritted teeth. 

Nancy narrowed her eyes, then let out a cold laugh. “Really? And have you forgotten who tricked me into that blind date in the first place? You set it up, but now refuse to take responsibility?” 

“Nancy, I’m your mother. How can you be this cold toward me?” Regina showed no trace of remorse. “It wasn’t my fault you went missing back then! I carried you for nine months and went through all that pain to give birth to you, and this is how you treat me?” 

Nancy silently stared at Regina. 

Regina mistook the silence for guilt. She jabbed a finger at Nancy’s chest. “You’ve humiliated me and ruined our family’s reputation. Why did I even give birth to you?”
