Renton rarely smiled in front of his students, but Sonia was an exception to that rule. “This investment project is funded by Guldner Group. Its purpose is to encourage students from top universities across the country to develop creative research in the field of artificial intelligence. 

“All the works that make it to the finals will be reviewed and evaluated by a panel of experts invited by Guldner Group. If your project wins first place, not only will you gain great recognition in the field, but Guldner Group will also invest heavily to support its full–scale development. 

“Sonia, as long as you seize this opportunity, your future will be limitless.” 

Sonia felt her blood boiling with excitement, as if glory and fortune were just waiting for her. 

Suppressing the thrill inside, she nodded gently and obediently. “Don’t worry, Uncle Renton. I’ll take this project seriously.” 

Renton reminded her, “Our university managed to secure three spots in this AI competition. Besides you, Owen Foster is also on the list. He majors in Biological Sciences, but he’s made quite a few achievements in this field as well.” 

Naturally, Sonia knew that their university was teeming with talent. Competing with Owen in the same event didn’t surprise her. 

She asked, “Uncle Renton, who got the third spot?” 

Renton had a slightly complicated look on his face. “The old dean insisted that the third slot be reserved for Valerie Collins, who took a year off due to illness.”

She had been absent for an entire year. Students who defied the rules like that should be expelled permanently. 

But Philip had repeatedly made excuses for her, even before leaving for his trip abroad. He had given strict orders that one of the spots for this Al competition had to be reserved for Valerie. 

Renton had always respected Philip, but their opinions had grown increasingly divided ever since Valerie’s arrival. It only served to deepen his dislike for Valerie.

Sonia hadn’t expected Valerie to be one of her competitors. 

Part of her wanted to scoff. It wasn’t even clear if that woman was alive or not, so how could she possibly be competing with Sonia for glory? 

But she swallowed her words and said smoothly, “Uncle Renton, rest assured. Whether Valerie is competing or not, the one who will take first place in the end will be me, and only me.” 

Renton was pleased by her sensibility and tact.

They attended the same university but were in different departments.
