Chapter 102 

Valerie had told Lucinda how to break her barrier spells many years ago. The small arrays at 

the door naturally couldn’t stop Lucinda from entering. 

Lucinda smiled and asked, “Are the fries good?” 

After sleeping for so long, Valerie’s stomach was growling from hunger. 

She finished the whole bag of fries in just a few bites. 

Once she was done, she shamelessly held her hand out. “More.” 

Lucinda looked at her in mock anger before tossing the bag filled with snacks over. 

Valerie took it and rummaged through the contents. 

As expected of her best friend. Lucinda knew her tastes perfectly. Every single snack inside was something she used to love. 

With food in her stomach, Valerie finally had the strength to speak. “When did you get here? Why didn’t you say anything?” 

Everett must have sold her out again. 

Lucinda sipped her drink through the straw. “I’ve been here for a while, but you were sleeping like a pig. I saw the dark circles under your eyes and couldn’t bear to wake you.” 

She continued, “While you were asleep, I took a tour of your lab. It’s still completely the same as before. I heard you spent 30 million in exchange for a piece of garbage. So, did you get the data you wanted?” 

Valerie rolled her eyes at Lucinda. “It’s only been a year, but your tongue’s gotten even 

sharper.” 

Lucinda huffed. “Don’t you know why that is? You just disappeared without a word. Do you have any idea how crazy everyone went looking for you?” 

“Other than Everett, Kieran, and you, who else knows I’m in Windmere?” 

“For now, no one.” 

“Then don’t spread the word. I don’t want to attract the attention of certain folks.” 

Lucinda raised an eyebrow. “Enemies?” 

Valerie nodded silently.

Lucinda pressed, “Who?” 

When Valerie refused to answer, Lucinda guessed, “This person’s in Windmere, isn’t he?” 

Otherwise, Valerie wouldn’t have chosen to settle here. 

Her base of operations had always been in the north, and she had never liked dealing with the power players in Windmere. 

The fact that Valerie had been hiding quietly here for a year meant she was definitely plotting something big behind the scenes. 

Valerie smiled and deflected the question. “Let’s talk about you instead. Have you encountered many interesting stories since returning to Windmere as the heiress? Also, how did you end up with Darrell?” 

Valerie had met Lucinda seven years ago, back when Valerie was known under the alias of King K. When Valerie founded K Net, Lucinda was her second customer. 

At the time, Lucinda had just been an orphan from an orphanage in the north. 

As Lucinda had been a late bloomer and was much shorter than other kids her age, they had 

nicknamed her “Shorty“. 

Although she was an orphan, Lucinda showed an astonishing talent from a young age. 

Just by hearing a voice, seeing a silhouette, or noticing small clues, she could sketch out a person’s facial features with striking accuracy. 

The orphanage she lived in had frequent cases of child disappearances. Even Lucinda’s best friend there had mysteriously vanished. 

On the day her friend disappeared, Lucinda accidentally saw the back of a suspicious person. 

Using her artistic gift, she reconstructed the person’s appearance from memory and took the drawing to the orphanage staff for help. 

She thought they would go to the police, but when she woke up the next day, she and several other children were taken to a private hospital for testing.
