Chapter 101Â
Marnie hugged Sonia and said, “You have to work hard, too. Marry into a powerful family soon, and give me something I can be proud of.”Â
As long as Sonia married well, Marnie believed that Skyler would no longer dare to sneakÂ
around behind her back.Â
Sonia understood what Marnie meant, but the way Lucius was treating her chilled her heart.Â
She would never forget what had happened on the cruise ship.Â
If she hadn’t blurted out in a panic that she had found the whereabouts of Phantom Healer,Â
she might have been the one thrown into the sea.Â
Sonia didn’t know whether Valerie was dead or alive, only that Lucius had leapt in after herÂ
without any hesitation when she fell into the sea.Â
After being rescued, Sonia used all of her connections to inquire about Lucius and Valerie’sÂ
whereabouts.Â
She was hoping that Valerie had perished, and Lucius had somehow survived.Â
After all, the White family was a powerful backer that she had worked so hard to secure forÂ
herself.Â
If she lost that connection, climbing back into the upper social circles would take time and careful maneuvering.Â
Left with no other choice, Sonia was forced to use her trump card, Hannah. She immediatelyÂ
called Azure Bay.Â
Sure enough, it was Hannah who answered the call. Suppressing her excitement and pretending to be calm, Sonia asked, “Is Mr. White at home right now? He saved my life on the cruise ship, so I’d like to thank him in person.”Â
Hannah didn’t seem suspicious at all on the other end. “Hello, Ms. Woodward. Mr. White isn’t feeling well, so he’s resting at home and doesn’t plan to see anyone for the time being.”Â
Sonia let out a sigh of relief.Â
Judging by Hannah’s tone, it seemed like Lucius was still alive.Â
When she tried to probe further, Hannah stammered out an excuse and quickly hung up, which didn’t surprise Sonia.Â

When she had gone to Azure Bay previously, Lucius had warned her not to try bribing the household staff to achieve her goals.Â
She still remembered how pale Hannah’s face had been when Silas took her away. It seemed like Hannah was indeed punished.Â
But Sonia was never one to sit idly and wait for things to happen.Â
Now that she confirmed Lucius was still alive, she needed to figure out a way to regain hisÂ
attention.Â
She decided to start by looking for Phantom Healer.Â
Valerie stayed in the lab all night to obtain the experimental data as soon as possible.Â
By dawn, she could no longer fight off her exhaustion and fell into a deep sleep.Â
When she opened her eyes again, it was already noon. Somehow, there was someone else inside the once–empty lab.Â
Her sleepiness vanished in an instant as she bolted upright and met that person’s gaze.” Lucinda, what are you doing here?”Â
Lucinda handed her an open bag of snacks. “Here, have some fries.”Â
Valerie accepted the fries mechanically and took a few bites, gradually clearing her foggy mind.Â
She had worked through the night and was so tired that she’d ultimately fallen asleep right here. So, she hadn’t even noticed when someone entered her private workspace.Â
But she wasn’t surprised, since she had known Lucinda for years. They knew each other better than anyone else.Â
Lucinda knew about Valerie’s research into the mystic arts, as well as how she liked setting up little traps in her personal spaces.Â
