The Kalen family had only just begun to relax after securing Victoria’s position at Kalen Group when ant assistant came rushing in, breathless and pale. 

“Bad news! Miss McKinzie’s car collided with the sons of an oil tycoon and a financial magnate yesterday. Both men are seriously injured and may be permanently disabled. They’re outside the building right now, demanding an explanation.” 

Silas frowned. “That accident was Sharon’s doing. What does it have to do with us? Besides, the whole world saw the live broadcast yesterday. Everyone knows we don’t get along with her. Let them take it up with Sharon, not us.” 

The assistant hesitated, then spoke cautiously. “Sir, foreigners don’t think the way we do. In their eyes, Miss McKinzie represents the Kalen family-your daughter is your name. If we refuse to take responsibility, they’ll assume we’re evading blame, not speaking the truth. And…” 

He darted a wary glance at Silas, choosing his words carefully. “If word of this spreads among the overseas families, our reputation will suffer terribly. Miss McKinzie was only recently acknowledged and welcomed home. If we abandon her the moment something goes wrong, everyone will assume we only brought her back for her original shares. The public will tear us apart.” 

Sharon might not hold any formal power now, but her public influence was undeniable. 

Since her divorce, she had remained in the spotlight, her reputation buoyed by one glowing headline after another. Even the occasional negative rumor was swiftly debunked, earning her more praise in the end. 

Even Carter, the man she once married, had suffered defeat at her hands. Though he hadn’t tried to destroy her completely, he had the media under his thumb back in Zachemaine and could easily sway public opinion or rescue himself when needed. 

Yet even with that advantage, he had walked away humbled. 

If Carter couldn’t best her on home ground, how could Richard hope to survive her storm? 

If this scandal had happened in Zachemaine, the Kalen family wouldn’t stand a chance-they’d be completely at her mercy. 

Scott spoke bitterly. “If we’d known we’d have to acknowledge her anyway, we should’ve brought her back sooner. Then she’d never have grown into someone this powerful.” 

Back then, he had mocked her choice to donate the 100 million dollars she’d received from Carter in the divorce settlement. He and Silas had laughed together, calling her self-righteous and foolish. 

That money could have secured her comfort for a lifetime. 

But now, that very act of charity-the thing that had made her untouchable in the public’s eyes—had turned her into the moral high ground they could never reach. And for the first time, Scott couldn’t laugh. 

Richard sat in silence for a long moment before finally saying, “Invite them to my office. I’ll meet them.” 

If this wasn’t handled delicately, those two powerful families would become lifelong enemies of the Kalen

No sooner had Richard left the room than Silas, fuming with frustration, snatched up his phone and dialed Sharon’s number. 

“Sharon, you’ve done it this time. You hit two men from families we can’t afford to offend. If you value your life, get to Kalen Group immediately!” 

Rick tried to stop him, but the line had already gone dead. 

“Silas,” Rick snapped coldly, “what do you think you’re doing? Calling her here now-do you want to make things even worse?” 

“She hit them,” Silas shot back. “She should apologize in person. Does she really think outsiders will be as forgiving as we’ve been?”
