Nancy’s attention was focused on the sizzling barbecue grill, so she barely noticed Gideon’s 

movements. 

They chatted as they ate, the atmosphere between them warm and cozy, giving Nancy a rare 

sense of peace. 

But to someone watching from the shadows, seeing this scene was akin to witnessing the world explode. 

Winter sat in her car, staring at Gideon and Nancy in disbelief from a short distance away. 

A strikingly handsome man and a beautiful woman were sitting by the window. It was impossible for passersby not to notice them. 

Winter watched Nancy and Gideon eat together, looking so comfortable and intimate. She wondered if they really were together. 

But in the next moment, she thought, “No, there’s no way Gideon would fall for a girl from a minor family.” 

But the jealousy in her chest flared anyway. She soon pulled out her phone and made a call. 

Inside the barbecue restaurant, Nancy and Gideon continued their conversation. 

Suddenly, a waitress, Trista Townsend, slipped while carrying a teapot of hot water, sending it flying toward Nancy. 

The incident happened so suddenly that Nancy barely had time to react, instinctively raising 

her hand to shield her face. 

But the situation took another unexpected turn. 

Gideon’s reflexes were astonishingly fast. Ignoring the pain, he reached out and pushed the teapot away. 

Only a small amount of water splashed on the table, while the rest of the scalding water poured over Trista, causing her to let out a piercing scream. 

Trista’s uniform was soaked through, her skin reddened from the burn. 

The restaurant manager, Windsor Ferguson, rushed over, shouting, “What are you doing? Be 

careful!” 

Trista cried out in pain, tears streaming down her face as she looked at Gideon nervously.

His gaze was cold and piercing, and a chill ran through her, fear flashing in her eyes. 

Nancy watched Trista walk away, frowning with concern. “She looks like she’s hurt badly.” 

“People like her aren’t worth worrying about,” Gideon said calmly. “I saw it clearly. She did it on purpose.” 

“What?” Nancy was shocked. “Why would she do that?” 

As Nancy spoke, she glanced out the window and saw a red Maserati parked across the street. 

In that instant, everything became clear to her. The only person who would be scheming against her after seeing her with Gideon could only be Winter. 

She hadn’t expected Winter to stoop to such underhanded tricks. 

Nancy’s eyes hardened. “Winter… She’s really bold.” 

It seemed like she needed to do something about Winter. 

Gideon’s gaze mirrored the coldness in hers. “Indeed.’ 

Suddenly, his hand was grabbed. Nancy saw that his broad palm was bright red from the burn, and her eyes filled with concern and worry. 

She asked, “Does it hurt? I’ll take you to the restroom to run it under cold water.” 

She insisted on leading Gideon to the restroom and rinsing his hand under the tap. 

Soon, Windsor arrived to apologize, bringing some ice with him. “We’re truly sorry. Your meal is on the house,” he said. 

Gideon’s tone was indifferent. “You should investigate your staff properly.” 

Windsor froze. “Understood.” 

After icing the burn, Gideon’s palm looked slightly better. “It’s nothing serious, so don’t worry. It’ll heal in a couple of days.” 

Seeing how worried Nancy was about him, Gideon felt a surge of warmth and happiness. 

Nancy felt a little guilty. “I should’ve been more careful.” 

“The waitress meant to harm you. No matter how careful you were, it wouldn’t have made a difference,” Gideon said gently. “Luckily, it wasn’t that serious. So let’s continue eating, alright?” 

“Okay,” Nancy said with a smile, continuing to serve Gideon pieces of meat.

Gideon smiled as he ate, subconsciously downing several glasses of water. Nancy noticed this and asked, “Are you really that thirsty today?” 

“A little. It’s a bit warm in here,” Gideon replied. 

“The barbecue restaurant does get a little hot,” Nancy replied. 

As they continued their meal, Trista, who had caused the earlier incident, left the restaurant, tears streaking her face. Before exiting, she cast a resentful glance at Gideon. 

Just now, she had received a message promising 200 thousand dollars if she could splash hot 

water on Nancy. 

The sender had even been generous enough to send her 50 thousand upfront. 

Trista was short on cash, so she quickly agreed. Even if she had splashed Nancy, it would have been considered accidental, and Nancy wouldn’t have been able to do anything about it. 

But unexpectedly, Gideon had reacted so quickly that he managed to push the teapot back 

toward her. 

The scalding water burned her all over, causing her excruciating pain. To add salt to her wounds, she also ended up getting fired. In fact, Windsor even blacklisted her from the industry, which would make it nearly impossible for her to find another job.

After the meal, Nancy and Gideon left the barbecue restaurant together and headed back to their apartment building. 

They first arrived on Gideon’s floor. 

Nancy looked at Gideon, still a little reluctant to part, hoping he might invite her in for a while. But Gideon simply said, “Go on up, then. Good night, darling.”
