Chapter 138 His Love Is Pure

“Mr. Levine, I’ve heard about you for quite some time now. I hear you’re the heir of the Levine family, one of the five great families of Riversdale. How did you end up working at Duran Corporation?” Gideon spoke casually, yet his question directly revealed Johnny’s true identity.

Christopher, who was sipping water, nearly spat in shock.

He remembered that Johnny had come from a single-parent family, yet he had suddenly turned into a wealthy heir, which surprised Christopher greatly.

Johnny lowered his gaze, a flicker of melancholy passing over his features. He softly asked, ” Do I have to explain my background? Well… Since you asked, I won’t hide it, Mr. Fuller. I’m

actually the illegitimate son of the Levine family. I grew up with my mother.

“The Levine family could have given me wealth and privilege, but they would never allow me into the family business. I didn’t want to live off handouts, so I came to Duran to make a name for myself.”

“I see. Your story is quite moving,” Gideon said as he nodded. “You’ve now carved out your

own path.”

“Indeed, though I’m no match for you, Mr. Fuller,” Johnny replied modestly.

By now, the dishes had started arriving.

Nancy had just finished her tea and was about to pour herself another cup when Gideon and Johnny both noticed. Almost simultaneously, they reached for the teapots beside them, leaning toward her cup as if determined to pour her a glass first.

They glanced at each other, neither willing to put down their respective teapots.

Christopher closed his eyes in despair, thinking that he shouldn’t have come to this dinner.

This was unbearable to watch.

Nancy froze for a moment, surprised that they were both pouring tea for her. Holding her empty cup, she hesitated a few seconds before moving closer to Johnny’s teapot.

Johnny smiled slightly as he poured her tea.

Gideon set down his teapot, his expression calm, as if nothing major had happened.

The group continued eating while discussing business.

Seeing Gideon peel some shrimp, Christopher immediately said, “Mr. Fuller, shall I have the

waiter do that for you?”

“There’s no need. I prefer to do it myself,” Gideon replied.

Christopher smiled, clearly impressed. “I didn’t expect someone as accomplished as you to be so down-to-earth, Mr. Fuller. It’s truly an honor for Duran to collaborate with you this time!”

Gideon smiled faintly, then pushed the plate of peeled shrimp toward Nancy.

She genuinely loved shrimp, especially when already peeled. However, the gesture immediately caught the attention of the two men beside her.

“I know you like these. Have some more,” Gideon said, his deep, magnetic voice carrying a hint of warmth. He looked nothing like the cold, ruthless man the rumors painted him to be.

“Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Fuller, but I’ve caught a chill recently, so I can’t have any seafood,” Nancy said, pushing the plate back politely, keeping her distance.

Gideon’s expression darkened instantly, and the atmosphere in the private room grew noticeably tense.

Christopher felt a cold sweat break out on his back.

He really shouldn’t have come. This private room, the setting of a complicated love triangle, was completely unsuitable for him.

“You caught a chill? Then drink more soup.” Johnny immediately poured her a bowl of chicken

soup.

Nancy glanced at Johnny, ready to refuse, but he had already placed the chicken soup in front of her. In the end, she could only say, “Thank you, Mr. Levine.”

“You’re welcome,” Johnny replied with a gentle smile, his eyes filled with an unusual warmth

as he gazed at Nancy.

Sitting nearby, Christopher heard a sharp snap and looked around in confusion. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Gideon’s hand under the table holding a plastic fork that had been snapped in half.

Christopher felt a chill run down his spine. This was terrifying! He wanted to leave immediately.

“Mr. Levine, you seem particularly attentive to Ms. Moore,” Gideon said casually.

Johnny smiled faintly. “I won’t hide it, Mr. Fuller. I like Ms. Moore,”

Their

eyes met again, and for a moment, the air between them crackled with hostility.

Christopher wished he could just open the door and leave.

“Ms. Moore is outstanding and beautiful to boot. It’s only natural that you like her, Mr. Levine, “Gideon said, his usual cold gaze softening as it fell on Nancy. “Very few people can meet her and not be impressed by her.”

The implication was clear. Johnny was just one of countless admirers who had feelings for

Nancy.

Johnny countered, “That’s true, but I see it differently. Perhaps others are drawn to Ms. Moore because of her talents, but I fell for her at first sight. I liked her even before I knew of her

status.’

His implication was just as clear. His love for Nancy was pure and unparalleled.

Listening to their conversation, Nancy felt a headache coming on.

“Shall we just continue eating?” she suggested.

“Sure,” both men responded in unison.

For the rest of the meal, Christopher felt more at ease.

After eating, Johnny looked at Nancy tenderly. “Ms. Moore, may I give you a ride home?”

“I…” Nancy began, but Gideon interrupted immediately. “We live in the same building. I’ll

take her back.”

Nancy looked up at Gideon. His features were sharply defined and strikingly handsome, radiating the kind of noble elegance only someone from the highest echelon of society could

possess.

She lowered her gaze, a flicker of emotion passing through her eyes as she said, “No. Mr. Levine, I’d appreciate it if you could take me instead.”

Johnny’s smile widened noticeably. “Of course, Ms. Moore. Let’s go.”
