Chapter 122 Argument

“Mr. Lidell, what’s going on here? None of us wants to end up buying knock-offs.” Everyone there was a high-profile client with some degree of status.

Andrew inwardly cursed, then fixed a cold, sharp stare on Nancy. “Nancy, why don’t you

explain this yourself?”

The warning in his eyes was unmistakable. He thought that if Nancy knew what was good for her, she should just admit it, apologize, and minimize the damage.

Nancy’s expression stayed calm. “Raine copied me.”

The words hit the crowd like a bombshell. The room went dead silent at that.

A few seconds later, Fergus jumped to his feet. He shouted, “Nancy, have you no shame? Raine copied you? What on earth do you have that’s worth copying?”

Raine looked shocked, too, then quickly put on a wounded expression. “Nancy, how could you say that about me? I was trying to protect your reputation. That’s why I didn’t say what really happened.”

“Of course, you won’t say it. You stole my design, after all. How dare you accuse me?” Nancy shot back coldly, her gaze cutting like a knife.

Raine trembled. “You’re going too far!”

“Nancy! Raine’s a top graduate. Are you saying she copied you? Show us proof! Otherwise, this is slander!” Minerva immediately raised her voice.

“That’s right. Give us proof!” Raine’s eyes brimmed with tears. Her delicate, pitiful look instantly drew sympathy. “Nancy, I won’t let you smear my reputation like this!”

Nancy gave a short laugh and analyzed calmly. “If you hadn’t stolen my work, would you have claimed it was a collaboration? If it were truly yours, you would’ve declared it outright. But unfortunately, you can’t prove I copied your work.”

“I kept quiet only to spare you the embarrassment.” Raine bit her lower lip, her voice breaking. “But clearly, my goodwill means nothing to you! Fine, then. The truth is that you stole my work! All my designs are saved on my office computer, and you had every opportunity to access them!”

By now, the audience was thoroughly confused.

“What’s really going on?”

Chapter 122 Argument

“Exactly. It looks like Nancy’s the plagiarist, but she’s so firm in her denial.”

“I think it’s Nancy.”

After all, Raine had the training and the credentials. That tipped people toward believing her.

Raine turned her sorrowful eyes to Regina. Seeing her so aggrieved, while Nancy stood there stubbornly, Regina’s heart broke.

She stepped onto the stage, groveled to the audience, and said, “I apologize to all of you. I never imagined the show tonight would end up like this.

“Raine has been kind and gentle since she was a child, and she’s already designed best-sellers. She would never plagiarize. The one who copied is Nancy. Going forward, she won’t design for us again. Please rest assured that you’ll never find fakes here.”

“Since Mrs. Liddell said so, then the plagiarist must really be Nancy.”

“Seems that way. She’s never even worked in design before. How could she have come up with something this good?”

The crowd slowly bought into the narrative, looking at Nancy with newfound disdain.

Raine gazed at Regina gratefully, then cast a quick look at Nancy, her eyes flashing with scorn and triumph.

Even if she had plagiarised, everyone was still on her side.

Nancy was a nobody, a rookie designer with zero reputation. Who would possibly believe her?

“Enough,” Martha suddenly barked, her voice ringing out. “Without a shred of proof, how dare you accuse Nancy of stealing from Raine?”

Regina hadn’t expected Martha to step in. She was stunned before explaining, “But Nancy has no experience. Of course, she’s the plagiarist!”

“I don’t recall ever saying I have no experience,” Nancy replied flatly.

“Have you designed before?” Regina frowned. “Then, name me some of your previous works.”

“My previous works were never something you were worthy of seeing.” Nancy’s tone was icy. “And this time, it’s Raine who copied my work.”

“Nancy, how can you say that? Are you determined to push me to my breaking point?” Raine’s eyes brimmed with tears, spilling down her cheeks.

“If winning means this much to you, then I’ll step down. Are you satisfied?”

She lowered her head sadly and turned to leave.

Regina’s heart shattered. She held her back and glared at Nancy. “How much longer are you going to drag this on?”

Even Andrew frowned as he said in a low voice, “Nancy, stop this. Just apologize. I’m sure Raine won’t press it further.”

“Nancy, you’re so vicious! Aren’t you ashamed of winning through plagiarism?” Minerva

shouted.

“What’s there to be ashamed of? Raine, if this is truly your design, then you must know how the dress is supposed to be worn, right?” Nancy asked.

“Of course, I do.” Raine lifted her chin.

Nancy’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Good. Then, show us.

“This is the way. I wanted to convey purity and innocence,” Raine explained.

“Is that so?”

Nancy walked to where Hillary stood. “Now, let me show everyone how the dress I designed brings out the different sides of a woman.”

She adjusted the dress, and in an instant, the long gown transformed into a short one. The change was seamless, and the shorter length only made it more alluring.
