Chapter 25 You’re So Lucky, Doctor Sterling

Gabriel’s thumb brushed against Emily’s sweatdampened cheek before he even realized it. For a second, she seemed to stir and awaken slightly

Then, a soft, cold laugh escaped her lips

How could it possibly be you? Even in my dreams, I’m seeing this jerk”

It was half her sleeptalking, half a bitter taunt at herself

With that, she abruptly turned over with her back turned to him and pulled the blanket tighter

around herself

Gabriel’s hands froze midair

Jerk? Was that how lowly she thought of him

The next morning, Emily stepped out of her bedroom, only to see Gabriel and Amelia in the dining area

Amelia noticed her and flashed a sweet smile. You’re awake, Dr. Sterling. Gabe knows I love sandwiches, so he got up early to make this for me.”

She picked up the remaining half from her plate and warmly offered it to Emily. You should try it, too. It’s really good.”

Emily felt her heart sink instantly. In two years of marriage, Gabriel had never once cooked for her. Yet now, he was preparing meals for another woman

Just as she was about to leave, out of the corner of her eyes, she spotted something else on the other side of the table. It was a plate of pumpkin waffles drizzled with maple syrup and the exact breakfast she’d eaten for years

Her steps halted, and her foot was instantly nailed to the spot. A ridiculous thought couldn’t help but creep into her minddid Gabriel make those waffles specially for her

Amelia’s sweet voice rang out right on cue, Gabe heard I wanted to try pumpkin waffles, so he made some for me, too. You’re so lucky to have such a thoughtful husband, Dr. Sterling, she said, elegantly cutting a piece with her fork and knife

Emily gave a selfmocking laugh. It was for Amelia, after all

She’d been overthinking

As she turned to leave, a large hand grabbed her wrist

It was Gabriel. She hadn’t even noticed when he’d come up behind her

Have your breakfast before you leave,he said flatly, his voice completely devoid of warmth

She flung his hand away. Watching the two of you is enough to kill my appetite. Once you’re finished here, please take your lover and get out of my house.”

That afternoon at the medical mission site, Emily was taking an elderly man’s blood pressure while a group of elderly ladies gossiped nearby

Have you heard? The new fivestar hotel in Northport caught fire last night.”

Are you talking about Obsidian International Hotel?”

Yes. Apparently, it was serious, but luckily, no one got hurt.”

Mallory handed Emily a bottle of water and lowered her voice. Isn’t Amelia staying there?”

As if a thought crossed her mind, she gave a sharp little scoff. Funny timing. You just signed a lease, and her hotel burns down the same night. Is that bitch pulling another stunt to leech off you?”

Emily’s voice was eerily calm as she announced, She’s moved into my place.”

What the fuck! Does she and Gabriel have no shame?”

Mallory could barely hold back her volume in surprise

Just then, a delicate, wounded voice came from behind them. Dr. Sterling, how could you gossip about people behind their backs?”

It was Amelia. Dressed in a pristine white dress, her face was pale, and her eyes were red-

rimmed

Gabriel stood beside her, completely shielding her with his tall frame

Amelia quickly seized the chance to continue. I understand you don’t like me staying with you, Dr. Sterling, but you could’ve just told me that. Why did you have to say such nasty things about me to Dr. Prescott?”

She surely was the most infuriating bitch to exist on earth

Emily let out a low laugh. I told you to get out last night, didn’t I? Or do you not understand the human language

You and Gabriel were the ones who shamelessly insisted on staying in my house. And now, are you expecting me to pretend it never happened?”

Amelia’s face drained of color, while Gabriel’s expression darkened

Enough, Emily. Amelia is in poor health, and she can’t handle stress.”

The moment he spoke, Amelia seemed to receive her cue and gasped sharply, clutching her

chest

Gabe, II don’t feel wellI can’tcatch my breath”

Mallory let out a scornful laugh. With a body that frail, what are you even doing out here in the mountains for charity work?”

She folded her arms and took a step closer. Oh, I get it. Are you afraid that if you take your eyes off him for a second, Gabriel and Emily will reconnect as husband and wife? So even if you have to fake it, you followed them here to play the devoted lover?”

Her words landed like a slap across both Amelia and Gabriel’s faces

Mallory’s gaze drifted to Amelia’s flat stomach as she added in a pointed tone, But let me remind you, Ms. Waverly. With a body that can barely walk two steps without panting or speak two sentences without fainting, you’ll probably struggle to bear a child for the Holtons.”

🌙 Part 1 — The Night of Exhaustion

It was 2 a.m. when Emily Sterling lay curled up on the bed, her body trembling from exhaustion. Her husband, Gabriel Holton, had just returned from a business trip after several days, and all his pent-up desire had exploded into wild intensity.
The floor was littered with used condoms — eight in total. Emily’s throat was sore from crying out, her limbs heavy like stone. When she whispered “Water,” Gabriel wordlessly helped her sit up and brought a glass to her lips.

💔 Part 2 — Beauty Beside a Stranger

Under the warm light, Emily gazed at the man she had married two years ago. Gabriel’s sharp, striking features glowed with confidence and power — the kind of man women fell for instantly. But to Emily, he was a mystery, both familiar and unreachable.
In that quiet moment, a thought bloomed in her heart: maybe it was time for them to have a baby — a child with both their blood. Maybe a baby could bring warmth to their cold marriage.

❄️ Part 3 — The Shattered Dream

Her daydream shattered when Gabriel’s deep, indifferent voice broke the silence.
“Remember to take your pills tomorrow.”
Emily froze, then forced a bitter smile. “Even with condoms, you’re still not reassured?”
Gabriel’s lips curled in mockery. “What do you think?”
His cold words stabbed through her chest, crushing what little hope remained. The tension hung heavy between them, until a sudden phone ringtone pierced the air.

📱 Part 4 — The Name That Killed the Silence

Emily glanced at the glowing phone screen — the name Amelia appeared.
Amelia Waverly. The woman everyone knew as Gabriel’s childhood sweetheart. They had grown up together, studied together, and when she returned from abroad, Gabriel personally appointed her as his secretary. Their connection was deep, their bond undeniable. Everyone whispered that Amelia was the true woman in Gabriel’s heart — not his wife.

Part 5 — A Call That Broke Her Heart

Gabriel picked up the call immediately. Amelia’s soft voice floated clearly through the quiet room:
“Gabe, I think I’m running a slight fever. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Gabriel’s voice softened, almost tender. “Sure. Rest for now. I’ll be there shortly.”
He hung up, his expression tight with concern. Emily’s fingers trembled under the blanket as she watched him hurry to dress. A wave of pain hit her.

🌧️ Part 6 — The Memory That Burned

Her mind flashed back to last year — when she had gone on a medical mission to the countryside. A disaster struck, and terrified, she had called Gabriel for help.
But instead of comforting her, he had mocked her for “overreacting,” hanging up coldly. That night, she had nearly died in fear — and he hadn’t cared.
Now, Amelia had a mild fever, and Gabriel was willing to rush out in the middle of the night. For Emily, it was clear: her husband had never loved her.

🕯️ Part 7 — The Jealous Wife

Driven by anger and pain, Emily threw off the blanket, ran to the door, and blocked Gabriel’s path. “It’s so late. Do you really have to go?”
Gabriel looked down at her, his eyes flat, unreadable. “You’re jealous?”
Emily bit her lip and nodded. “As your wife, shouldn’t I be?”
He smirked cruelly. “You’re not worthy of being jealous of Amelia.”
His words sliced through her soul. Without another glance, he turned the doorknob and walked out, slamming the door into her shoulder as he left.

🌪️ Part 8 — Left Behind in Silence

Emily stumbled backward and collapsed to the floor. The slam echoed like thunder in her mind. Moments later, she heard the roar of his car engine fading into the distance.
The room was now painfully quiet. The sheets still smelled of him, but the warmth was gone. She wrapped her arms around her knees, trembling, tears streaming endlessly.
For the first time, she admitted the truth — she had fallen into an abyss of her own making.

💧 Part 9 — A Fool’s Love

Emily realized she had always known this marriage was hollow. She had tried to fill it with love, patience, and faith, but Gabriel had only ever kept one woman in his heart — Amelia.
She was nothing but a placeholder, a name on a marriage certificate, a woman to share his bed but not his heart.
Still, she couldn’t stop the ache. Even in pain, she had loved him too deeply, hoping he might one day look at her with tenderness. That hope now turned to ashes.

🔥 Part 10 — The Final Blow

Just as her tears began to dry, her phone rang again.
It was her best friend, Mallory Prescott.
“Mills! Guess who I just saw — your husband! He’s got a woman in his arms, and they look real close. That bastard! Couldn’t he have gone to any other hospital? He came to yours! Is he trying to disgust you on purpose?”
Emily’s hand trembled as she listened. Her vision blurred with tears, not from surprise — but confirmation. Everything she had feared was real.
Gabriel hadn’t just left her alone; he had humiliated her completely.

That night, Emily Sterling realized it was truly time to leave — not just the house, but the man who had never once looked back.
