Chapter 22 Just Toying With You

Amelia froze before her tears started streaming uncontrollably. She clutched at Gabriel’s sleeve, and his voice trembled. I’m sorry I made a mistake, GabeII just care too much about you. Please forgive me just this once. I’ll never do it again.”

Gabriel expressionlessly pulled his arm free and glanced toward the bodyguard trailing behind to give the latter a subtle signal. Take Ms. Waverly home.”

Her face drained of all color. As she watched him turn to leave, she blurted out, Where are you going, Gabe?”

His steps faltered for a second, and without looking back, he replied, To that middleaged couple.”

Amelia felt her heart lurch. A chill shot from her feet to the top of her head, and without a second thought, she cried out, I’ll go with you!”

He turned back to fix her with a mocking gaze. What’s wrong? Are you afraid they’ll slip up and reveal your little scheme?”

Her throat tightened as though squeezed by a pair of invisible hands. She could barely utter a word and watched as he slid into the black Bentley and drove away

The next day, a short video from the local news section began circulating online

In the video, Bradley and Viola faced the camera with tearful apologies, weeping as they apologized for their actions

It’s our mistake. We took the wrong medicine, and everything had nothing to do with Dr. Sterling

Dr. Sterling is a kind doctor who treated us for free, yet we misunderstood her. We’re such terrible people!”

In the video, Bradley and Viola took all the blame and never once mentioned Amelia

As Emily turned off her phone, a cold smile curled up at the corner of her lips. Well done, Gabriel

Dr. Sterling.”

A soft, sweet voice came from behind her. Dressed in a designer pantsuit and high heels

Amelia gracefully walked over to her

You saw the video, right? It doesn’t matter if Gabe knows the truth because his heart will always lean toward me.‘

Emily looked at her with cold, unnerving calm. If you’re that capable, why hasn’t Gabriel divorced me and married you outright?”

While Amelia’s smile froze on her face, Emily took a step closer and looked at her with eyes full of pity. Or perhaps he’s never thought about marrying you at all. Is hejust toying with you, Ms. Waverly?”

With that, Emily ignored Amelia’s enraged expression and walked away, leaving the latter shaking with fury

Bitch!Amelia cursed

She vowed to drive Emily out of the Holtons for good

Consecutive days of medical mission had drained Emily nearly to the bone. Returning to the team’s lodging might mean being bombarded by questions, so she decided to rent a small apartment on her own

The landlord charged double for the short lease, but she didn’t mind. All she wanted was peace and quiet

She’d just lain down on the couch when a sharp knock came from the door

Frowning, Emily stomped to the door in annoyance and looked through the peephole. With one glance, she felt her blood run cold

Gabriel was standing outside the door, impeccably dressed in a tailored black suit. He looked tall, distant, and as cold as ever

How did he even find this place

Emily instinctively backed away and decided to pretend she wasn’t home

Then came a soft click as the lock turned from the outside. As the door swung open, Gabriel stepped into the entryway, exuding a cold, chilling presence

Her eyes widened in shock. How do you have the key?”

He closed the door behind him and twirled the key in his fingers before scanning the modest apartment. Finally, his gaze settled on her stunned face. I told the landlord we’re married, so

he gave me the spare key.”

Emily let out a sharp laugh. Married? You have a lot of nerve, Gabriel! Aren’t you afraid the landlord will tell everyone about our marriage? That means getting your beloved Amelia publicly shamed as a mistress!”

Gabriel walked up to her and looked down at her condescendingly. There’s nothing in this world that money can’t solve.”

She shot him a cold glare, then asked, To what do I owe the honor of your visit, Mr. Holton?”

Ignoring her sarcasm, Gabriel took off his suit jacket and casually tossed it onto the couch. He settled down as though he owned the place before loosening the top two buttons of his shirt and comfortably leaning back

“My shoulder’s been stiff from all those medical missions. Come here and give me a massage, he demanded

Emily stayed where she was and refused to budge an inch. Her voice was cold as she snapped, I don’t know how. Amelia is the best at massages, isn’t she? Why don’t you go to her?”

Gabriel’s gaze immediately darkened. In one swift move, he reached out to seize her wrist and yank her closer

Caught off guard, Emily stumbled into his embrace and felt his arms lock around her

Are you that eager to push me toward another woman?”

She struggled, only to find his grip tightening. So she gave up and lifted her head, her clear, bright eyes meeting his

Aren’t you already enjoying yourself with multiple women, Mr. Holton? How did I never realize how much of a jerk you are?”

The air stilled briefly, but instead of getting mad, an amused smirk spread across his lips. He suddenly found her feisty, unyielding demeanor far more interesting than the docile puppet she used to be

He reached out and pinched her chin, while his thumb stroked her skin. Since when did you become so sharptongued and jealous? Did Mallory teach you that?”

🌙 Part 1 — The Night of Exhaustion

It was 2 a.m. when Emily Sterling lay curled up on the bed, her body trembling from exhaustion. Her husband, Gabriel Holton, had just returned from a business trip after several days, and all his pent-up desire had exploded into wild intensity.
The floor was littered with used condoms — eight in total. Emily’s throat was sore from crying out, her limbs heavy like stone. When she whispered “Water,” Gabriel wordlessly helped her sit up and brought a glass to her lips.

💔 Part 2 — Beauty Beside a Stranger

Under the warm light, Emily gazed at the man she had married two years ago. Gabriel’s sharp, striking features glowed with confidence and power — the kind of man women fell for instantly. But to Emily, he was a mystery, both familiar and unreachable.
In that quiet moment, a thought bloomed in her heart: maybe it was time for them to have a baby — a child with both their blood. Maybe a baby could bring warmth to their cold marriage.

❄️ Part 3 — The Shattered Dream

Her daydream shattered when Gabriel’s deep, indifferent voice broke the silence.
“Remember to take your pills tomorrow.”
Emily froze, then forced a bitter smile. “Even with condoms, you’re still not reassured?”
Gabriel’s lips curled in mockery. “What do you think?”
His cold words stabbed through her chest, crushing what little hope remained. The tension hung heavy between them, until a sudden phone ringtone pierced the air.

📱 Part 4 — The Name That Killed the Silence

Emily glanced at the glowing phone screen — the name Amelia appeared.
Amelia Waverly. The woman everyone knew as Gabriel’s childhood sweetheart. They had grown up together, studied together, and when she returned from abroad, Gabriel personally appointed her as his secretary. Their connection was deep, their bond undeniable. Everyone whispered that Amelia was the true woman in Gabriel’s heart — not his wife.

Part 5 — A Call That Broke Her Heart

Gabriel picked up the call immediately. Amelia’s soft voice floated clearly through the quiet room:
“Gabe, I think I’m running a slight fever. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Gabriel’s voice softened, almost tender. “Sure. Rest for now. I’ll be there shortly.”
He hung up, his expression tight with concern. Emily’s fingers trembled under the blanket as she watched him hurry to dress. A wave of pain hit her.

🌧️ Part 6 — The Memory That Burned

Her mind flashed back to last year — when she had gone on a medical mission to the countryside. A disaster struck, and terrified, she had called Gabriel for help.
But instead of comforting her, he had mocked her for “overreacting,” hanging up coldly. That night, she had nearly died in fear — and he hadn’t cared.
Now, Amelia had a mild fever, and Gabriel was willing to rush out in the middle of the night. For Emily, it was clear: her husband had never loved her.

🕯️ Part 7 — The Jealous Wife

Driven by anger and pain, Emily threw off the blanket, ran to the door, and blocked Gabriel’s path. “It’s so late. Do you really have to go?”
Gabriel looked down at her, his eyes flat, unreadable. “You’re jealous?”
Emily bit her lip and nodded. “As your wife, shouldn’t I be?”
He smirked cruelly. “You’re not worthy of being jealous of Amelia.”
His words sliced through her soul. Without another glance, he turned the doorknob and walked out, slamming the door into her shoulder as he left.

🌪️ Part 8 — Left Behind in Silence

Emily stumbled backward and collapsed to the floor. The slam echoed like thunder in her mind. Moments later, she heard the roar of his car engine fading into the distance.
The room was now painfully quiet. The sheets still smelled of him, but the warmth was gone. She wrapped her arms around her knees, trembling, tears streaming endlessly.
For the first time, she admitted the truth — she had fallen into an abyss of her own making.

💧 Part 9 — A Fool’s Love

Emily realized she had always known this marriage was hollow. She had tried to fill it with love, patience, and faith, but Gabriel had only ever kept one woman in his heart — Amelia.
She was nothing but a placeholder, a name on a marriage certificate, a woman to share his bed but not his heart.
Still, she couldn’t stop the ache. Even in pain, she had loved him too deeply, hoping he might one day look at her with tenderness. That hope now turned to ashes.

🔥 Part 10 — The Final Blow

Just as her tears began to dry, her phone rang again.
It was her best friend, Mallory Prescott.
“Mills! Guess who I just saw — your husband! He’s got a woman in his arms, and they look real close. That bastard! Couldn’t he have gone to any other hospital? He came to yours! Is he trying to disgust you on purpose?”
Emily’s hand trembled as she listened. Her vision blurred with tears, not from surprise — but confirmation. Everything she had feared was real.
Gabriel hadn’t just left her alone; he had humiliated her completely.

That night, Emily Sterling realized it was truly time to leave — not just the house, but the man who had never once looked back.
