Chapter 30 Heartless Man
Catherine was lucky that Harry had arrived in time to prevent a disaster from happening this
time.
What about next time?
Who was trying to murder her?
She sat up in a daze after hanging up the phone.
Her parents‘ accident had been the same. Someone had deliberately cut the wires and caused the brakes to fail.
Both accidents were identical. Could the same person have been behind both events?
The doorbell rang at that moment. Catherine snapped back to her senses and got up to open
the door.
She was pulled into a firm embrace the moment the door was opened. Rachel’s voice followed immediately. “What happened yesterday? How did you suddenly get into a car accident? Are you hurt?”
Catherine shook her head. “Rachel, I’m fine.”
“Fine? You look terrible.” Rachel looked at her pale face and sighed with concern before lifting the food container. “I cooked this meal myself. Come and try some.”
She took Catherine’s hand and guided her to the dining table. She even placed the dishes separately in front of Catherine.
Catherine looked up at her.
Rachel asked puzzledly, “What is it?”
“Rachel, my brakes were cut. Someone was trying to murder me.” Catherine’s eyes reddened, and her voice trembled.
Rachel shot to her feet in shock at her words. She immediately pulled her into her arms and comforted her. “Don’t be afraid, Cathy. I’ll protect you.”
Catherine couldn’t help but bury her face in Rachel’s arms. Her shoulders were trembling slightly.
Rachel patted her back gently. “I’ll look into this and find out who’s trying to harm you.”

Catherine nodded faintly. She finally began to calm down.
After staying with her for a while, Rachel thought of the baby and couldn’t help but say, ” Cathy, do you want to come live with me at the Zimmerman residence? We have people who can look after you.”
Catherine still remembered Harry’s warning. He had made it clear that he wanted her to stay far away from Rachel.
He would probably force her out if he found out she had moved in with Rachel.
Catherine refused. “I’m fine here. I’d rather not go back.”
Rachel understood that the problem wasn’t Catherine. It was Harry. She had to talk to him
first.
She left to see Harry after a few more words of comfort.
Harry was in a high–level meeting at that moment.
The conference room door burst open unexpectedly just as he was halfway through the meeting. He looked up and saw Rachel’s furious face.
He set down his pen and instructed Adrian, “Prepare a meeting summary for me later.‘ He then stood up and straightened his suit before leaving the conference room. “Mom, what are you doing here?” He could tell from her expression that she was here for Catherine.
Only Catherine could make them clash like this.
Rachel dragged him into his office. She slammed the door shut and asked with a darkened expression, “Are you aware of Cathy’s car accident?”
“Yes, I’m aware. Isn’t she fine?” His tone was casual as he poured her a glass of water.
Rachel was infuriated by his nonchalant attitude. In a fit of anger, she blurted out, “Do you even know she’s carrying a child!”
She realized she had slipped the moment the words left her mouth.
He looked up and stared at her. There was a hint of displeasure in his tone. “I know. What does that have to do with me?”
In Harry’s perspective, Rachel had helped Catherine hide that she was pregnant with Jeremy’s child. Harry truly would have suspected that Catherine was her daughter instead if he hadn’t

Rachel kicked his shin and scolded, “Harry, do you even have a heart!”

“You should go back if there’s nothing else. I’ve still got things to take care of.” Harry pressed his fingers between his brows. He was in no mood to argue with her.
Rachel shouted behind him. “Someone tampered with Cathy’s car. What happened yesterday wasn’t an accident.”
His steps faltered for the briefest second before he slowly turned around. His attitude remained nonchalant. “We’re already divorced. What happens to her has nothing to do with me.”
With that, he strode off.
She nearly fainted from anger.
No wonder Catherine refused to come back with her. Who could endure his attitude?
He didn’t even care about his own child. He could even spit out such ruthless words.
Harry returned to the conference room. Rachel’s words kept replaying in his mind. Someone had tampered with Catherine’s car.
After a long silence, he turned to Adrian and instructed, “Look into Mrs. Zimmerman’s accident report from yesterday.”
