Chapter 219

Valeria lowered her head and looked at Sebastian’s hand. He had long fingers and defined knuckles. The veins were visible under his skin as well. Sebastian’s hands were definitely very

cold.

Sebastian lowered his head again, and his cheek rested against hers while he used her shoulder to support his chin.

It was an intimate act.

Valeria shuddered all over, and she wanted to turn her face away.

My face is cold, too,he murmured in a low, husky voice. His lips brushed against her neck as he spoke, and his warm breath fell against her skin. But his cheek was definitely cold, making Valeria a little uneasy. Yet, she didn’t move.

Sebastian’s face was like a magnet.

It didn’t matter if she moved. He would be pulled right back.

They stayed like that until a nurse passed, and Valeria pushed him away.

The whole morning was a blur of payments, blood tests, and various examinations.

By around 11, Valeria was discussing the surgical plan with Malcolm Hughes when Sebastian walked in with a middleaged man. Malcolm froze at the sight of him, then quickly stood up.Dr. Sutton, what brings you here?”

Brandon Sutton was an orthopedic specialist from Slate City Medical Center. He came in on the first of each month to hold consultations at the Verdanci District Hospital.

Brandon waved a hand and got straight to the point. Let’s talk about the surgery plan.”

The surgery began at two.

Valeria was nervous. Because of Margaret’s age and the location of the fracture, recovery would be slow. There was also the risk of uneven legs and a long rehabilitation period. The operation lasted three hours, but it went smoothly. An hour later, Margaret woke up.

When she opened her eyes, she immediately grabbed Valeria’s hand. Her heart ached when she saw Valeria’s reddened eyes. You should go rest with Shane. Don’t sit by me all the time.”

Then, she looked around the ward. Where’s Shane?”

He went back firstValeria actually didn’t know where Sebastian was.

Margaret said, It’s good that he went back. You should go, too. I’ll ask Thomas to come over.”

At the mention of Thomas, Valeria bit her lip. Grandma, you should’ve called me earlier. Did you call him? Did he not answer? Or did he just tell you to rest at home, that you’ll be fine after a while?”

Margaret said, No, he doesn’t know.”

There was no way that was true. Thomas would have been the first person the hospital

contacted.

She lowered her gaze and said nothing more. She took off the jacket, grabbed the thermos, and went out to fetch hot water.

Sebastian came into the ward carrying dinner. He set it on the nightstand.

Only Margaret was in bed inside the ward. Shane, thank you. Thank you for taking such good care of Valeria. If she ever shows a little temper, please be more patient with her.”

Margaret was especially polite to her grandsoninlaw. She knew that Valeria had married Shane when she had a child and that they treated her well. Even Lucy was kind. They were genuinely good people, so Margaret had a lot of gratitude for Shane.

Sebastian said, Yes, I will.”

Thank you, Shane. You and Valeria should live well together. If anything happens, you two should talk it over.Margaret’s heart ached knowing Valeria had endured so much hardship. She wanted her to have a responsible person to rely on.

Sebastian simply said, Please rest well.”

He really didn’t want to listen to Margaret talking about them as a married couple.

Margaret looked at his figure and thought that the sweater she had knitted for him fit perfectly. She had even asked Valeria about Shane’s size before making it. And sure enough, it was a good fit.

When Valeria came back in with the kettle, she overheard Margaret talking to Sebastian.

Margaret said, When she was little, I took her to the market and bought a few chicks. She was only four or five then. On the way home, she let them swim in a water basin, thinking chickens were like ducks. Sure enough, they all drowned, and then she cried”

Valeria froze at the embarrassing memory from her childhood. Granny.”
