Chapter 171 He Lost His Chance a Long Time Ago 

But Curtis had once said that he loved Sonya. Since he loved her, it wouldn’t matter whether she was the one who’d saved him or not, right? 

Sonya was soon placed in the car. 

Chloe looked at Lena and Ethan. “What about you guys?” 

“We’ll take him to the police too.” Ethan pointed at Peter, who was trying to make a run for it even though his hands were tied. 

“Okay. Take them all to the police,” Chloe said. 

Ethan and Lena took Peter to the car, while Chloe and Brian got into theirs as well. 

“Chloe!” Curtis called out to her just as she was about to get in the car. Chloe didn’t look back and merely got into the car. 

Brian, on the other hand, cast him an icy glare as if he were warning him to stay away from her. 

Watching their car leave, Curtis clenched his fists tightly. He was the one who used to be closest to Chloe. 

Chloe’s world used to revolve around him, yet at that moment, she wouldn’t even look at him. 

He turned to look at the raging river. It was just like back then. He still remembered hearing a voice when he was at his lowest moment. 

Just when he thought he was about to drown, he heard a strong voice ringing in his ears.” Don’t worry! I’ll save you! You’ll be fine!” 

That voice had assured him and given him so much hope in times of darkness. Back then, he’d told himself if he survived that ordeal, he would make it up to her properly. 

How had things ended up like this? 

The person who saved him had been by his side, married to him, for three years. What had he done? 

At the thought of the past, a wave of remorse washed over him. It shouldn’t have ended up this way. It shouldn’t have!

Chloe handed all the evidence she had found out about Sonya’s crime to the police. Sonya was detained according to the law. 

In the police station, Sonya glared resentfully at Chloe. “Chloe, don’t think that you’ve won! The evidence that you have wouldn’t be enough to press charges against me!” 

“That’s for the judge and the jury to decide,” Chloe said icily. 

Right at this moment, Ethan and Lena entered, escorting Peter. 

When he saw Sonya, he said angrily, “You bitch! How dare you set me up? Just you wait and see. If you ever get out of prison, I’ll kill you!” 

“It’s your fault for being so greedy and insisting on 50 million! If you hadn’t backed me into a corner, I wouldn’t have come up with such a solution! If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for being so greedy!” Sonya said angrily. 

“I’m greedy? So are you!” If the police weren’t around, Peter would have already beaten Sonya

“I only asked for 50 million. You, on the other hand, had your eyes on Curtis‘ entire fortune! If not, why did you pretend to be his savior? If you truly like him, why didn’t you like him when he was poor? You only got together with him after he got rich!” 

Sonya was speechless. Right at that moment, she saw Curtis behind Peter. She didn’t know when he’d come in. 

She immediately said nervously, “Curtis, d–don’t listen to him! I really love you! I choose to be with you!” 

She wasn’t going to let Curtis give up on her. After all, Chloe had found evidence linking her to the fire at the border. It didn’t matter if the evidence was enough or not; she still needed Curtis to help her win the court case and to get out of this mess! 

Curtis looked at her with a mix of emotions swirling in his eyes. He’d taken a cab and rushed to the station, only to overhear what Peter said. 

Was Peter right? Did Sonya only get together with him after he got rich? When he was still a poor man, Sonya had only visited him at the hospital a couple of times. 

After he got discharged from the hospital, he’d tried looking for her a few times. Back then, she’d always said that she was busy and had no time to see him. 

Later, when he got rich, Sonya had often appeared in front of him. She was the one who’d taken the initiative to contact him most of the time.

Seeing Curtis remain silent, Sonya panicked even more. “Curtis, don’t you believe me?” 

Curtis smiled bitterly. Believe her? How was he supposed to do that? 

“You keep saying that you love me and that I should trust you. So why did you lie to me about such an important thing? You pretended to be the one who saved me all these years.” 

“I—” 

“Sonya.” Curtis took a deep breath and interrupted her. “This isn’t the only thing you’ve lied to me about. The 50 million wasn’t frozen as proof of funds. 

“On the way here, I checked with your uncle. He doesn’t even know anything about a deal or any proof of funds. So, you only lied to me for the money. You wanted to use it to keep Peter quiet. Is that it?” 

Curtis‘ disappointed gaze made Sonya shudder. It was as if he were trying to draw a line between them. 

If it had been before, even if he’d known that she’d tricked him out of 50 million, he would’ve still forgiven her. 

But it was all different now. He knew that she wasn’t the one who saved him. 

“Curtis, I–I… I–I didn’t mean to lie to you. I was only temporarily borrowing from you. I called the police on Peter! They would have returned the money to us. There won’t be any loss. 

“Besides, I was truly planning on helping you connect with my uncle. I–I… I was planning on talking to him!” Sonya explained anxiously. 

She added, “Curtis, I love you! Trust me! I really do love you!” 

“Enough!” Curtis bellowed. “Stop saying that you love me. Sonya, we’re done!” 

Sonya’s face paled. How could they be done? She’d gone to such extremes and sacrificed so much. How could he just dump her like that? 

Seeing Curtis about to leave, Sonya suddenly blurted, “I’m pregnant!” 

“What?” Curtis was stunned. He looked at her in disbelief. Then, he seemed to have thought of something and looked at Chloe anxiously. 

Chloe furrowed her brow and looked at Sonya, deep in thought. 

Curtis felt a surge of hope rush through him. Did that mean that Chloe still cared for him? Is 

that why she frowned when she heard that Sonya was pregnant? 

“Yes, I’m pregnant!” Sonya said once more. “So, Curtis, you’re not done with me!”
