Chapter 170 Unmasking the Truth

Sonya’s face ashen. 

Was Brian planning to throw her into the river? No! If he really did that… 

She started to sweat profusely. “No! Let go! Let me go!” 

She squirmed as she tried to pry Brian’s fingers off her neck, yet it was all in vain. She was no match for him. 

He was grasping her neck tightly but not enough to choke her. Still, she could sense him slowly pushing her to the edge of the railing. If she went any further, she would fall into the river. 

From the corner of her eyes, she saw the turbulent river. Though she knew how to swim a little, she wouldn’t be able to survive in such turbulent and rough waters. 

“Curtis, help me!” Sonya pleaded, looking at Curtis for help. 

He had a complicated look in his eyes as he glanced at her. His mind was a mess as he thought about the truth. 

“Curtis, you trust me, don’t you? You said that you trust me!” Sonya yelled. 

“Brian, let go of Sonya! No matter who rescued me back then, it has nothing to do with you! If you push her into the river and anything happens to her, do you really think you can get away with it? You’ll end up in prison!” Curtis yelled. 

“You think it has nothing to do with me?” Brian said calmly, “My girlfriend has been accused of lying, so how could this have nothing to do with me? I’m doing this to prove she isn’t lying. Besides, you can see whether I’ll end up in prison or not once Sonya really falls into the river.” 

“You’re a madman! You psycho!” Curtis’s expression was ugly. 

He wanted to run over to rescue Sonya, but he was pinned down by two of Brian’s bodyguards. 

Brian sneered. Madman? The Steeles had never once cared about people calling them mad. Even if he were a madman, he would only be a madman for Chloe. 

At that moment, almost half of Sonya’s body had been pushed over the ralling. All Brian needed to do was loosen his grip, and she would fall into the river. 

Curtis looked at Chloe pleadingly. “Chloe, stop him! If Sonya falls into the river, I will never

Chloe sniggered. “Forgive me? Aren’t you tired of going on and on about this like a broken record? Curtis, who the hell do you think you are? Do you think I care about your forgiveness?” 

“I…” Curtis was at a loss for words. 

“When we were married, I only cared about what you said because you were my husband. You were the one I chose. But now, you’re nothing to me,” Chloe said icily. 

Curtis felt a chill run down his back. There was nothing but utter loathing and iciness in her eyes as she looked at him. 

“Since you believe that Sonya saved your life, now’s a good chance to let her prove herself. The waters today aren’t as turbulent as they were back then. 

“If she managed to rescue you that day after you were stabbed eight times, don’t you think she should be able to swim to the riverbank on her own just fine?” Chloe asked. 

Curtis was speechless. 

Lena spoke up just then. “She rescued a man who’d been stabbed eight times? The Great Captain Miller sure is a great swimmer! It’s time to see her in all her glory!” 

Sonya’s face alternated between flushed and pale. In the past, everyone had called her ” Captain Miller” out of respect and adoration, and she’d thoroughly enjoyed it. But now that she’d been fired, it sounded like an insult instead. 

“Enough! If you’re going to throw her into the river, stop mucking around and just do it,” Ethan said impatiently. 

“Yes, 

there’s no need to say anything else!” Brian chuckled and let go. 

“No! I’ll die if I fall! I will really die!” Sonya screamed. “I–I… I didn’t rescue Curtis! When I found him, he’d already been rescued. I–I… I–I only waited for the ambulance! It was just a coincidence that the paramedics thought I was the one who saved him. That’s how I ended up following him to the hospital.” 

In the face of death, Sonya came clean and admitted the truth. She was truly worried that she would get thrown into the river and die. 

The next second, Brian threw Sonya to the side, and she slumped to the ground. 

Curtis couldn’t believe what he’d just heard.

A voice in his head told him not to ask any more questions. Letting it go was the best thing for him. But his body instinctively urged him to press further. 

Before he could reach Chloe, Ethan kicked him to the ground. “Curtis, you have no right to approach Chloe!” 

Curtis coughed painfully while clutching his chest. He struggled to get up before looking at Chloe once more. “Chloe, please tell me. Was it you? Did you rescue me from the river?” 

“My, my, Curtis. You’re finally asking her. Not long ago, you were still proudly claiming that Sonya rescued you, right?” Lena said mockingly. 

Curtis looked like he was in pain, but he couldn’t be bothered with Lena’s mocking words. He stared straight at Chloe. “Was it you or not? Answer me!” 

“Is it necessary?” Chloe looked at Curtis icily. “Whether it was me or not, Sonya was never the one who saved you. Yet, you trusted her. What a joke!” 

Brian walked over to Chloe. “What do you want to do with Sonya?” 

“Hand her over to the police. We’ll give them all the evidence of her crimes as well,” she replied. 

“Okay,” Brian said and gave his men a look. They immediately went over to drag Sonya up 

“No. What are you doing? I don’t want to go to the police! Let me go! I did nothing wrong! I’m innocent!” Sonya struggled and yelled, “Curtis, help me! Help me!”
