Chapter 168 The Right to Hit You
Sonya looked horrified. “W–What are you talking about? I don’t smoke! How could I have been the cause of that fire? I helped to put it out! I saved so many lives!”
Curtis glared at Chloe. “Chloe, you keep targeting Sonya! You even cost her her job. Is that not enough?”
“I’m targeting her?” Chloe snickered. “Didn’t she lose her job because she’s done so many evil things?”
“W–What evil things had Sonya done? Even if she hadn’t rescued her colleague back then, it was only because she was afraid. It’s only normal to be afraid in the face of a catastrophe!” Curtis retorted. “She still helped put out the fire and rescue others!”
“So that makes it okay for her to hide the truth and enjoy the honor she received while she was heralded as a heroine?” Chloe snapped.
“She didn’t just cover it up. She even hid the fact that she was the one who started the fire. She was the culprit, yet she was happily lapping up the praise! It’s absurd!”
“Sonya said she doesn’t smoke. How could she have possibly started the fire?” Curtis said angrily.
“She doesn’t smoke?” Chloe sneered and threw a few photos at Curtis, hitting him in the face. “These are photos of Sonya before the fire. Not only did she smoke, but she used to do it for many years!”
Curtis looked bewildered. He picked up the photos in a daze. Sonya had a cigarette between her fingers in every photo. He had never seen her like this before. He always thought that she never smoked, yet the photos showed how naturally she held a cigarette and smoked.
Sonya’s face paled a little. “These photos… t–they must be photoshopped! They must be!”
Chloe scoffed. “There are ways to find out whether they’re photoshopped or not.”
Curtis pursed his lips grimly. “Even if Sonya smokes, that doesn’t mean she threw away the cigarette butt that started the fire! Besides, didn’t the fire department and the police conclude the investigation back then? Bernard was the one who didn’t put out his cigarette, causing the fire!”
“They only reached that conclusion because Bernard was already dead. If he’d been alive, he wouldn’t have taken the blame,” Chloe said icily.
“Do you have proof? You have nothing-

Sonya smoking and threw them at Curtis.
“These are photos of Sonya smoking where the incident took place. Ten minutes after she threw the cigarette, the fire broke out. Are you still going to say she had nothing to do with
this?”
Curtis looked at the photos. Even though he couldn’t see the woman’s face clearly, he could immediately recognize Sonya from the outline of her face. He knew those contours way too
well.
Sonya shuddered when she saw Chloe produce the photos. Why would Chloe have such photos? When were they taken? And who took them?
“Chloe, this is slander! How dare you accuse me based on some blurry photos!” Sonya yelled
in retort.
“We’ll let the judge decide whether it’s you or not,” Chloe replied. “I only got you here to get payback for what you did to Daniel.”
“What?” Before Sonya could understand what was happening, Chloe had gotten close to her, raised her hand, and punched her in the face.
Sonya stumbled backward. If Curtis hadn’t caught her, she would have fallen to the ground. She clutched her face in pain. “Chloe, what right do you have to hit me?”
“Right?” Chloe said through gritted teeth. She grabbed Sonya by the collar and snarled, “My brother went missing five years ago, all thanks to the fire you started. Now do you think I have the right to hit you?”
Sonya was baffled.
Curtis looked horrified too. He remembered that Chloe had a brother who’d gone missing at the border five years ago. He’d never thought that it had something to do with the fire back
then.
If Sonya had something to do with the fire…
He could hardly bear to imagine it.
“This is defamation! You’re using some blurry photos to accuse me of starting the fire? Chloe, this is malicious slander!” Sonya denied vehemently. “Now that you’ve hit me, I’ll sue you! I’m going to make sure you end up in prison!”
“Sure, go right ahead!” Chloe clenched her fists. At the thought of how Daniel had been in danger and was still missing, all because of Sonya, a wave of hatred washed over her.
On top of that, Sonya didn’t show an ounce of regret about what she’d done. She wouldn’t even admit her mistake,
Chloe threw another punch at Sonya right in the shoulders.
Sonya was in so much pain that her face lost all its color.
Just when Chloe was about to punch Sonya once more, Curtis rushed up and grabbed her by her wrist, yelling, “How could you hit her! Besides, these photos don’t prove that it was Sonya who started the fire!”
Chloe glared at Curtis and barked, “Let go!”
“No. I won’t! I-“Before he could finish his sentence, Chloe kicked him right in the chest, sending him flying backward.
He landed heavily on the ground, feeling a jab of pain in his chest.
Then, Chloe walked over to Sonya. The latter’s expression was ugly as she stumbled backward, only to find her path blocked by one of Brian’s bodyguards.
She said nervously, “Chloe, s–stop right there. You used to be in the military, right? How could you misuse your power like this? Aren’t you afraid of giving the military a–a… bad name?
Chloe burst out laughing, tears welling up in her eyes. “It’s precisely because I used to be in the military that I’ve been constantly holding back. If not, do you think you’d still be able to stand in front of me? But I’m not just a soldier; I’m also my brother’s younger sister!”
This was why Chloe hated Sonya. She was the reason why Daniel had gone missing. She hated that Sonya didn’t feel remorseful at all.
Just when she was about to hit Sonya once more, Curtis ran over, positioning himself in
between them.
